Somewhere on the internet
It's kinda unfortunate that a lot of cool building materials aren't used

For example I really like the railcraft infernal bricks, and various logs (not planks) can look pretty nice

What blocks do you guys like to use for building?

Industrialcraft construction foam is interesting because not only you can build very quickly with it, but also because the resulting walls can be painted with any dye. I've seen people use the wall of buildings as artistic canvas.

Breed those trees up into pretty wood. Birches love pretty wood.

Basalt, dark xychlorium blocks, and silver are some things I like to use in small interiors.

Yeah, Construction Foam is very, very underused. It makes hiding IC2 wires a breeze, has decent blast resistance, you take a reasonably long amount of time to mine it so you don't mine it accidentally all the time like cobble or smoothstone. It also looks bretty good. Other materials include red cobble bricks, soulsand (it actually looks pretty awesome together with dark xychorium bricks as a Dark Nexus housing or soul shards mob spawner room)... Most of the planks and logs from tree breeding since it's such a manual process...

Also i'd suggest not using railcraft infernal bricks or coke oven bricks AT ALL. They start lagging massively if you try to build with them, it even says so on the RC wiki.

brujon, Railcraft added cosmetic variants of those blocks (and others) a couple versions ago to address people's desire to build with them ;)

While on the topic of Railcraft: the wooden or metal posts are pretty awesome too (and also dyeable).

Didn't know about that... I was still under the impression that you had to build with the multiblock version of the blocks, and the lag is unsustainable. They look very nice, i might have to do something with them after all.

Greatwood logs placed sideways, but alternated directions every block makes for a nice looking floor pattern. Also, redrock bricks + basalt brick skirting for walls + re-inforced stone floor makes for a nice looking base.

Concrete and smooth stone chequer makes a nice looking floor too :

Railcraft concrete (smooth stone and rebar), aluminium blocks (xycraft), mfr building blocks (obsidian, lapis, glowstone bricks etc), warded blocks (thaumcraft, 16 colours)

Damn... We're getting there. Lots of cosmetic blocks coming up. Pretty excited about the vanilla hardened clay blocks that can now be dyed as well. They're not all super pretty and detailed, but all are awesome for pixel art, as they're much smoother than wool.

Rockwool. Looks and sounds like wool, but has as high of blast resistance as stone and is non-flammable.

Silverwood planks also look pretty amazing, but it feels so wrong to use them for building. :-(
