Well, I left the same gates running for longer, and it seems they've actually sped up now. They're pulling items out at super speed. I don't have a measurement of how long it took them to warm up, though... I'll have to devise a way to do that and see if I can get some real numbers here and figure out what's going on.

It should take 1000 pulses to get to full heat.
Max speed is starting from 751 heat/pulses.

the calculation would be as follow:
100t *250 pulses = 25 000t = 1250s ~= 20 min
50t *250 =12 500t = 625s ~= 10 min
25t *250 = 6 250t = 312.5s ~= 5 min

So, yeah, it should be after 35-ish minutes.
But you need to take into account that this is based on the assumption that you run at 20 tick per second, and that is most likely not the case on most servers, and even on SSP.

That's kind of weird. I'm seeing pretty disparate results from autarchic gates...

The speed at which they produce items seems pretty variable based on what their wooden pipe is attached to. When on a squeezer that has an item backlog, the gate will immediate spew out several items per second, even when it's first given an activation condition (moments after being attached to the pipe).

When placed on a chest, I never seem to be able to MATCH minimum redstone engine speed, nevermind exceed it.

The only thing I'd use autarchic gates for is if I need one and only one item at a time when certain condition is met. It is faster at pulling out the first item as the redstone engine has to pulse fully before the item is taken out. All other purposes are better filled with redstone engines kept on all the time.

I mostly use AutGates for compact piping, especially liquids. Whenever efficiency is a concern, I'd rather use RP or GT (or design the system not to need pipes at all).

Except the purpose of not having redstone engines everywhere. Plus the buildcraft documentation claiming autarchic gates are faster, which from my experiments seems to be VERY highly reliant on what you're using them on.

Yeah, the more I play with autarchic gates, the more I find them impractical for most use cases. It's a great concept, but hard to use for moving items around. They work well for liquids, but if I'm moving liquids around I'd much rather use liquiducts. I really wish the more expensive versions of them would give you more options - say, for example, if an autarchic iron/gold/diamond gates let you control the pulse interval and stack size pulled to some extent (with more options and higher speeds/item counts available as they get more expensive, of course).

Revisiting my earlier statements: The incident I had where I turned on an autarchic gate and it gave like a couple dozen items in a few seconds? I cannot seem to replicate, either on the build that I first witnessed it on, or in another context on the same server, or in creative SSP.

I'm really quite baffled... Now I'm trying to remember if that event was before or after I moved to mindcrack v7.
