So I am still learning about tree breeding so I don't have walnut/chestnut trees yet for seed oil.

I had a wheat farm going but I don't need anymore wheat.

I read online that a melon farm using a harvester and those crop sticks is very efficient and cheap. So I built one. However the harvester will harvest both melon slices and full melons. I can automate the melon slices to be made into seeds using Applied Energetics, however I have no clue how to automate a full melon into slices then seeds. Any tips for a melon farm to get just the slices? or is there a way to make full melons automatically go into slices or seeds? Should I forget the crop sticks and harvester and use something else? (The multiblock forestry seems rather expensive to maintain with the fertilizer)

Thanks for your time!

Crop sticks and stuff are very good, the only thing you would need is some sort of placing the melons down, against a ME Transition Plane that automaticly mines it into slices.

Get the melon blocks into a turtle and let the turtle place a block every so much often. If needed I can write a script for you but I am in a bit of a hurry now.

unfortunately as much as I want to think I am witty with machines, AE and GregTech are my strong points when it comes to mods. I have no clue how I would automate putting items into turtles or setting up scripts for it. Curse you tree breeding! You seem harder than it was for me to get pure industrial and imperials!

pretty sure you can export the melons into a pulverizer and it will break it into melon slices and seeds and from there ae can autocraft to seeds for oil.

Can you use TE3's place and block breaker block for that? Auto places melon infront of the block breaker and the block breaker will break it and harvestvthe slices?

which harvester are you using? im familiar with the mfr harvester...that only returns slices. no need to replant as it does not touch the plants. below is a 9x9 patch, mfr harvester requires tin upgrades to reach the entire plot. underneath the slices are run through a te cyclic assembler to convert the slices to seeds, sent off to squeezers to feed the seed oil tank next to that patch.

This one is a bit different tho. im running direwolf20 pack for 1.6.4, and i have TE autonomous activators underneath the dirt with watering cans..this crop grows REALLY fast with that setup and 22 squeezers are barely keeping up with the incoming flow of seeds (thats why im running 3 harvesters on this patch ;) ). I know unleashed has the watering can, but no activators, i dont know if theres a similar block for unleashed.

TE3 is 1.6. Unleashed pack is 1.5.2. So no cool machines ;b

He is likely using the mfr harvester but rather than using the standard melon plant he put the seen in an ic2 crop to greatly amplify the efficiency.

te pulverizer will break the full melons down to slices. theres also a chance to get an additional seed from the process. macerator works as well, no additional drops from that though
