So, I have a pretty decent computer that used to run FTB at 120-150 FPS on full settings, but now it can hardly run the damn thing at 30 FPS on low settings. I haven't messed with any settings since this started to occur.

Specs:

12 GB DDR3 RAM (Should be enough, only have 4.5 GB dedicated)
Java7u55 (Update 55) 64-bit version. I don't have a 32-bit version installed at all
i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20Ghz
64 Bit Operating System, Windows 8 (stupid Windows 8...)
Radeon HD 8570 Graphics Card (Very nice card tbh, rather have a Nvidia though)

For some reason, the game randomly starts up great, running that beautiful 120 FPS, and sometimes it runs at 30 FPS on lowest settings. I don't understand what the hell is happening and I just want to play my game haha.

I thought it might have been a problem with Monster, so I tried it on Horizon, and yielded the same results.

I get a good start up (120 FPS) about 1/20 times I launch the game.

Thanks for any help, and if you guys need more info just ask. I have the capability to find any specs you need.

Well, just so you don't feel alone. Ill say that I've definitely been there: Random launches of MC would startup on appallingly slow FPS, but upon a relaunch it would be fine.

Ill say that upgrading my system worked. But it was an upgrade to something with lesser specs than you are starting with.

I'd suggest that this is just a symptom, typical of Windows PCs, that it is time to backup your personal files, pull out the Operating System CD, boot it, and re-install a fresh OS from scratch.

Other "ideas" you probably have allready tried:
1. Update those video drivers. Older OpenGL impementations are seriously stupid when it comes to texture management.
2. Your video card you claim is "very nice". Very nice means 512Mb or more of video ram?
3. You have a 64bit Java - have you been playing with the -Xmx parameter in an attempt to "improve" performance? Don't push it too far, going past 2G has the unexpected consequence of making java perform worse.

Depends, 4.0 gigs is the uppermost MAXIMUM. He has 4.5. Likely the issue, also 2.5-4.0 range is the best, but it depends on specs.

I've tried anywhere from 2 GB to 10 GB (No difference anywhere)

I've tried 1 & 3. I'll look up the specs on my card real quick, but like I said, I know it's more than capable to run @ 120

EDIT: It's a 2 GB card.

Is this occurring in a certain world of yours, or just all the time in general?
All the time, no matter which pack or map I launch.[DOUBLEPOST=1402562805][/DOUBLEPOST]

I just got my Windows 8 computer in January! I do want to downgrade to 7 though...

Big mistake. Windows 8 actually runs on my system (same hardware on both versions) about 10% faster at a minimum... Win8 internals are far advanced over Win7.

Thats a remarkably precise number. How did you measure the 10% improved performance?

I wish we could have a Windows 7 layout with Windows 8's performance. Come on Windows 9! Don't be a failure!

Win8 has a normal desktop/file system just like 7 it just doesnt have a start button. That now lives in a hover enabled sidebar thing. Its not THAT much different, except its tonnes faster.

The hell man, a desktop processor and mobile graphics card.

Just to confirm, your getting the high FPS and low FPS on the same pack? Also, that's not really a very nice card, its dedicated buts its also quite low in terms of performance. If you haven't already, try disabling the graphics chip integrated into the processor. Also check temps, make sure nothing is overheating and throttling back.

Dont know why, but this argument has a huge positive impact on my game. Monster wont even load without it.

Code:
-XX:PermSize=256m-XX:MaxPermSize=256m-XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled

Rumor has it that instead of right-clicking the windows logo in the lower left to get the old start menu (actually a bit more useful than the old start button) the next update in August will bring back the old button design for real, as well as starting the new style "Metro" apps in desktop windows (not this full screen/one app visible at a time B.S.)

It's been benchmarked all over the place. use your google-fu. win8 shows improved performance over 7, even though that's all it is; it's just an improved win7. the actual realworld performance is negligible, though. I can't tell a difference on bf4, but on paper it's there.

On Topic: @Dezz your system is definitely adequate. I just benchmarked an 8 year old dual core rig with 4gb ram and a video card several generations older, and a lot crappier than yours. It ran monster at 40fps solid no problem. My current minecraft rig is about 7 years old, with a 4 year old low-mid range gpu and I see 120-130fps.

You really should be solid 100+ no matter what you throw at it with a rig of those specs. I really think your problems lie in your software somewhere. Something in your OS freaking out sporadically? How dirty is your registry? Got a lot of toolbars on your browser, bro? :p

I use Ccleaner Daily, and I have no tool bars.

I hate this system.

Also, my card sucks that bad huh? Haha

Maybe look into getting a new one.

Or building a new pc

Building one is a much better option. By the way, you never answered my question, is it a laptop or a desktop? You listed a laptop video card but a desktop processor. If its a laptop with a dedicated video card, its still probably not upgradeable. Only the high end stuff from Clevo, Sager, and maybe Alienware supports upgrades of CPU and GPU.

Desktop. I want to go buy a GTX now haha
