Hey everybody.
I`ve been playing feed the beast for a while and just started up a new world. I`m trying to save recources (mostly for fun), and i`ve been wondering what power generation would be the cheapest and most efficient.

Not thinking about a specific type of power here, just any and all of the different powers.

Any sugestions?

Sitting in a meeting ;)

Forgot to mention, i`m using FTB ultimate with original mods and settings

Dartcraft dartcraft dartcraft

Kidding, I don't know unleashed. That's just what everybody that uses it says.

For the amount of power - squid. Has to be. Just don't start with boilers. Go for biofuel generators. That'll be cheaper.

1.6.4 MFR nerfed rancher and squids indirectly.

Mobs can only be worked by one rancher at any given time and there is a cooldown period inbetween each "milking" session.

So no more squid ink fuel. At least not efficient enough anymore.

the thing that immediatly popped up into my head would be MFR treefarms, powered by stirling engines filled with charcoal that's generated by the treefarm. any excess charcoal can then be used for more stirling engines to power your base. if you've Railcraft or Thermal Expansion installed, you can try the hobbyist steam engine or the steam engine. they do require water, but can either produce more power, or use less charcoal

Can one automate turtles to do the winding? That sounds like a neat challenge.

No, it is explicitly designed to not be automatable - that's the tradeoff for costing no fuel whatsoever. Any way that does work should be bug reported.

Fair enough :sadface.jpg:

I guess it is funny to imagine someone with a base so efficient that the only thing they can do is run from clockwork engine to clockwork engine charging them one at a time, 24/7 :p

That ought to be some kind of artsy metaphor for the role of a human in modern society :D

I know. He's using 1.4 though. Shame about it being nerfed though.

The best most powerful energy source with little to no effort is lava from the nether with an enderthermic pump. Many consider this OP and cheaty but if you want the most bang for your buck go with lava power. You can use lava for either ic2 or buildcraft power. Its abundant. Requires extremely limited overhead. You can use the lava either in geo thermal generators or you can use it in magmatic engines. Either way it produces tons of power with very little effort.[DOUBLEPOST=1384883102][/DOUBLEPOST]
Here's a spreadsheet I made a while back for this purpose: http://bit.ly/15BPGCv

Why dont you list TE's engines?

My general line of approach when starting a new world:
Couple solar panels for EU to macerator/furnace.
Coal->stirling just for being able to make those first bits required for better power.
Lava(from nether or mystcraft world through Endertanks(cheaper to make than tesseract))->Magmatic/Geothermal
Multifarms(or thaumcraft golems)(wheat, cactus, saplings etc)->Biomass->Ethanol(MJ).
Bees->Phosphor->lava. Remove/unload lavapump.
Solar panels(EU)(HV/ultimate solar panels). Control setup to turn off geothermals when enough solar power is available(geothermals now serve as backup for rain/night).
Maybe do boiler with charcoal from multifarm. But gets rather boring since its a bit OP.

What I use is lava. I have a pump in the nether with a magmetic engine powering it on a platform over lava.To get the engine started I just put 1 lava bucket in it. Lava get pumped into the engine and a ender tank in the overworld at my house. That ender tank goes into a geothermic generator. There's a chunk loader on the platform with the pump on it so I don't have to be beside it for it to work. It's not the cheapest..... but in the nether.... you have A LOT OF LAVA.

(This is in unleashed so I don't know if you have all the things you need.)

Please watch date of threads before you necro them. (Specially if it is with information that is already mentioned several times in the thread already).
