FTB getting stuck at 0% when FML sets up the Minecraft environment

The launcher starts up fine but when I try to launch the MindCrack pack the window comes up and the FTB animation shows and thing comes up that says FML is setting up your Minecraft environment and it gets stuck at 0%. I haven't tried running a different mod pack yet but I will. Also it is telling me that MindCrack is out of date but whether I update it or not it still gets stuck.

The error in the console is "FMLRelaunchLog.resetLoggingHandlers:186->MinecraftLauncher.main:214: Unhandled error launching minecraft: java.lang.NullPointerException"

I have java 7 and I'm on Fedora 18 (and fairly new to it).

FTB Ultimate seems to be working fine although it still asked me to update the mod pack right after I downloaded it. I should also say that MindCrack was working yesterday.

1. From the log, it seems you have Java 7 Update 09. Newest is Java 7 Update 25.
2.I think I found someone else with your problem: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/fml-error-when-starting-up.19188/
(but that person uses Java 8 and Windows)
If FTB Ultimate asked you to update, then it is good. Thats because because you have version 0 (not downloaded) and get the latest recommended version.

Wow that was much easier than I thought it would be. All i had to do was put "sudo yum update "*openjdk*"" into the terminal to update java and now it works fine. Thanks a lot
