Either every bee-breeding wiki I've read is incorrect, or there's something fishy going on...

*SPOILERS*

I know that a frugal bee is made from modest + sinister. I got my pure modest princess and a pure sinister drone, stuck em in my alveary along with a nether star in the mutator, and expected some pure frugals in return. Instead, the nether star was used (so the mutation should have happened) but all I got out of it was modest/sinister hybrids. The wikis do not mention that frugals have to be bred in the nether like the sinister does, but is that what I have to do? Does anyone have any information on the frugal bee and can explain to me why a 100% mutation chance does not give me my frugal bee?

pretty sure frugals have to be done in a DESERT biome

Edit: my apologies i was thinking of a different breed

They have to be bred in that biome? So it doesn't matter that I adjusted the queen's temp and humidity tolerance to accept a normal/normal biome?

Personally didn't have any luck with frugal until I took them to the nether. Not even in the desert (I was using 4 uranium in an alveary in a desert biome and still no luck). The first time I took them to the nether biome (using an apiary with soul frames) and it mutated to frugal. You'll have a lot less frustration if you just get the demonic line done in the nether. After that you shouldn't have to worry about breeding in the nether.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the biome modified the "chance" of mutation. So if you are in hell you have the highest chance, and if you are in cooler biomes you'll have lower chances, significantly so. At least that's my theory.

Edit: lulz dessert.

Okay I am now convined that the frugal bee cannot be made... I've tried modest + fiendish as well as modest + sinister, both in the nether and in the overworld, inside an alveary using a nether star in the mutator. Not a single mutation yet.

There is a higher chance of mutation with sinister. Keep trying in the nether. I was a bit frustrated myself. I think it's low even in with the nether star in hardcore...

I just want to confirm that Frugal bees are possible to get (at least in the DW20 pack). I got mine using modest + sinister in the nether with 3 soul frames in 2 apiaries.

I believe (if i remember correctly) that the inactive trait only was mutated for both the princess and drone. I then had to take those and breed them. This gives 50% (?) chance that the next generation was Frugal. This is also a good reason to use multiple apiaries. Once you get a pure bred princess or drone, you want to save it until you get another pure bred of the opposite type.

Keep trying, good luck!
