Freakish Spider Farm with Arcane Levitators + Quicksand

Hey. I made this bizarre mob farm the other day (Using Creative) and I think its pretty amusing.

I don't have any video recording software yet, so I thought I'd just post a few pics.

So yeah it's nestled in a cave beneath my friends house

It is a tier 5 spider spawner, suspended between a bed of arcane levitators (with water funneling towards the center point) and a ceiling of quicksand (and a roof above that)

It is a horrendous sound as you can imagine. Squealing screeching spiders suffocating to death in the ceiling.

Its so weird to watch. It IS a reverse fall trap. Hahaha.

As you know, Arcane Levitators only levitate the mobs, and let the drops fall to the floor, where they are whisked away towards the collection point.

So they are pushed into the ceiling, where they die, yet their drops slide slowly out of the quicksand.

This is also a weird sight.

I have the piping set up to go through autocrafters to make wool.

Anyways, I thought you guys might get a kick out of this contraption.

I support finding new and progressively more horrible ways of killing giant bugs.

Somehow you must devise a way of trapping unwanted noobs in that room.

Devilish bastard. I gotta get into levitaters.

What we need a spike type block. Sort of like a cactus that can be placed to point in any 6 directions and placed under blocks with nothing under them.

I did in fact laugh quite maniacally.

Yeah the quicksand was "Plan B" I was looking for something that could act as a cactus that could be placed upside-down, or something.

I'm pretty pleased with the quicksand though.

EVEN IN CREATIVE this thing is hazardous. You cannot enter that space. You will be instantly shoved up into the ceiling. So, if something goes wrong - say, the soulcage needs adjusting - you have to act like an astronaut to get over to the cage and turn it off.

In the meantime; spiders everywhere.

Its pretty fun though. Occasionally a spider jockey will spawn.

slightly off topic
I didn't know that.. I had a spider spawner, and the drops from the spiders were being dealt with fine, but after a little while, my item sorting system just filled up with bones and arrows >.>

I love this build, usually I just do the 2 layers 1 block off the ground and watch them sink to their doom but this is so much better. I may have to start using this design as my last fall trap was overkill with a 100 block drop.

It is indeed quite the awesome trap, but don't arcane levitators cause flux while they are operating? Now I'm not one to shy from wisps and flux, but I fear this may result in an excess of both.

They require Vis to run so avoid doing it in the Overworld in SMP.

Add some Redstone wire to the levitators with a switch. That way you could shut them off when not needed and allow the aura to refill itself and if possible reduce any flux you might have.

The problem with that tho is that you need the levtators to stay on after you shut off the spawner to kill the last few. Sure you could do it with Redstone wire and logic gates but it's easier to just use 2levers and enjoy the show as it ends.

I have a barrels floor, and a chests floor

So I send all my automated processes into barrels, and anything that doesn't fit into barrels gets wasted, but everything that isn't automated goes into my chests, which don't have an overflow protection, only chests at the end for misc. items... and that doesn't last well against automated processes..
