Forge has been out for a bit, just no official post about it :b

I really hope that more mod devs start working on 1.7 versions of their mods, so that my 1.7 world is more fun ;D

Yeah I meant it has been now officially released :) Been using the 1.7 forge for 2-3 weeks for my own little testpack

My only curiousity for 1.7 is the possible performance increases. All the vanilla features are already covered by mods in 1.6. Honestly, unless the performance increase is awesome, I hope we stay on 1.6 :)

Once all your mods are installed, your performance is gonna take a dip anyways, so...

What I suspect is that even with a new forge, it'll take a while before the "scene" moves on to 1.7 (let alone 1.8). I guess we'll see. I'm of the impression that everyone's started jumping on to 1.6 just recently, and hence aren't ready to move on just yet. And by "everyone" I mean players and modders.

That said, the players'll go where the modders'll go.

The big thing here, and what I can't wait for, is that block and item IDs are now gone, well, at least invisible to the end user. No more fiddling with config files working out ID conflicts. That is going to be huge, and remove the last bits of complexity from installing mods. Install Forge, drop mods in, and then play will work in most cases. The rest is just tinkering with stuff like ore gen and such.
