First experiences with modpacks

My eyes.... hurt.
So have some Yellow text.
First experience (custom pack just before they started making the FTB packs):
Build 3 story tower, get lots of cool portal gun stuff.
Go mining, get some ores.
Build some farms.
Try to build the HV solar array.
Faint after doing the math.
Get bored, cheat it in.
Go nuts, cheat in 5 Dark matter furnaces.
Go even more nuts, cheat in full Gem armor and start battling with friend.
Get bored, end playthrough.
Because I'm a nice guy, here is the translation:

Quit, assign more memory in the launcher and try again
Dumdidum, punch some trees. Wow, instant leaf decay. Schweeeet.
Find a nice spot for a base, get digging...what's all this extraneous crap underground? Schist and Gneiss and Hornfel? Sounds like the east german swimming team. I guess it might be useful for something later.
Now I just need some iron to make some machines and better chests and shizzle.
Hmmm, there's got to be some iron around here somewhere.
Nope, that's tin and cadmium and indium, if I keep digging i'll find some iron eventually.
No luck here either.
Rinse, repeat.
If I was on unleashed i'd have scads of the bloody stuff by now, as it is I have three stacks of tin blocks and a paltry dozen or so ingots of iron.
Bloody thing. I'd make a quarry but I need iron for that and the engines to power it.
Back to digging, I guess. Hi ho hi ho etc.

- Use an advanced turtle excavation program that mines out every third layer, picking out the ores from above and below
- Build base right above
- Suffer massive rendering lag from all the exposed blocks

Loving the lime green text, and especially the gold text.
OK....was thinking this was about the first experience with modpacks.....I had tried putting the mods together manually and had a little success....liked trying different things.....so tried bukkit....was so cool the number of things I could do with that....
then learned about packs and launcher...so tried the tekkit launcher.....lagged my POS computer like you wouldn't believe and changed things in so many ways I lost count....quickly uninstalled that and went back to the less earth rattling bukkit.....
then found FTB was hosting the Direwolf20 pack.....how easy the launcher was to use and modpacks to learn was fantastic.....
have tried going to stuff like the ATlauncher....still like FTB and DW20's packs the most....

Yeah, Resonant Rise is not good for weaker computers. Also:

What's weird is I can run any other pack with at least 20fps (which is very playable, I should note). And, I can run an unstable version of Monster at like 40fps, and today I was running 60fps on my custom pack. I #BlameResiRise
