I thought fillers made sense, but then I tried to use one! :)

So I setup 4 landmarks to indicate a 3 dimensional area that was about 22x22x12 to clear our some sand. All of the landmarks connect with the red lines. I drop the filler next to a landmark, on the red line, and the construction bars appear exactly as planned. So far so good. Put in 3x3 glass to clear.

Plop down a magmatic engine, drop in some lava, and woot! stuff starts to disappear. Except that it runs for a few minutes, then the filler breaks. What did I do wrong?

What do you mean be "the filler breaks"?
Does it switch from green to red, without having fully cleared the area?
Did it simply stop working?
Is the magmatic engine still going?

Trying some VooDoo here: Your engine couldn't dump its entire production into the filler each pump, so it got hotter and hotter and finaly stopped working. Whacking it with a crescent hammer (maybe a BC wrench will work, too) will restart it. Add two RE Conduits in between, so it can always dump all the production (remember to configure input/output if necessary).

Never connect engines directly to Filler. Filler can only consume so much energy per tick, so it needs some pipes to serve as buffer.

I'll see if I have a couple of redstone conduits left and try that tonight. thanks

Do you know if that will cause the filler to break?[DOUBLEPOST=1357742487][/DOUBLEPOST]
Did you place the filler inside the lines, so that it cleared itself?

Red line is also inside filled zone. So, if you put filler "on the red line", it will clear itself.

ah ha. ok.

Thanks. I remember having problems getting a quarry to operate putting it outside the red line, and just did it the same way.

thanks for the tip!

Quarries need to be next to a landmark but if you'd put them in the same spot the same thing would happen: the quarry would remove itself while clearing. Even better: since the clearing process deletes block the quarry would delete itself. Bye bye 11 hard-earned diamonds :)

As a fun side note, apparently quarries were changed recently - now their upper limit is something like 100 MJ/t. Which is insane, really. Still need diamonds to make it, unlike the filler, but then you don't have to pull shenanigans involving piping and whatnot below. Of course, if you don't like massive holes in the ground the filler doesn't need overhead space, so....
