Ok, i have 4 fermenters in a row producing biomass. The bottom of the fermenters are connected to conduits. The front have liquiduct pipes attached, transporting the biomass to a tank. The back are also attached to liquiduct pipes, bringing in water. That leaves only the top face....i want to automate the input of saplings and fertilizer....i've tried regulators and item routers, but i just can't get it to work.

i had the following set-up with routers:

CC
RR
RRFFFF
(c=chest, r=router, f=fermenter)

The two chests contain fertilizer and saplings respectively. The routers directly underneath the chests have ejector upgrades, so they extract from the chest above and dump into the routers below. These routers have machine filter upgrades, set to insert into fermenters only. I can get fertilizer into the bottom slot fine (insert into slot 0), but the sapling will not go into the slot above the fertilizer, even if i set it to 'insert into slot 1'. Instead the sapling is fed into the adjacent router, which makes no sense as i have selected Fermenters with the machine filter upgrade.

Can anyone see what i'm doing wrong, or offer an alternative method? Help will be much appreciated

Firstly remove the conduit it's not doing anything, Fermenters do not require power.

This is how mine is setup -

Water in the back (via Aqueous Accumulator)
Mycelium out of the bottom (via filter > tubes)
Seeds in the top (barrel > filter > tubes)
Wheat (in) and Mulch (out) via the left side (RP Manager )

The Manager keeps a certain amount of wheat present in the top half of the Fermenter and once a stack of mulch is done, the manager will remove it.

Nvm that's the moistener

Thanks for the reply. Firstly, according to sengir....fermenters do require power - http://forestry.sengir.net/wiki.new/doku.php?id=energy:fermenter

Secondly, managers are disabled on my server, otherwise that would have been my first port of call.

The wiki is wrong unless it's changed between the MindCrack version and the latest Forestry release, the fermenter has never required power to function.

I hate to ask why someone would disable Managers... really!?!

b0bster is confusing a fermenter with a moistener ;)

If you are using RP2 for automation your inputs are: saplings into the top and fertilizer into bottom. With BC pipes you can pump in/out any side you want.

Not true

From wiki

Note: Buildcraft Energy
The Fermenter requires Buildcraft Energy (MJ) for its operation. You can supply energy through a Buildcraft compatible engine (such as Forestry, RedPower, Railcraft or even Thermal Expansion Engines), Buildcraft Conductive Pipes or Thermal Expansion's Redstone Energy Conduits.

The more power that is supplied to the Fermenter, the faster it'll operate.

Just stick a hopper top and ensure the hopper is kept stocked with 1 stack of saplings and 1 stack of mulch/fertilizer/compost. I use a clay golem to stock my hopper. You can probably do the same with a router.

The fact that the router is inserting stuff into the wrong machine indicates that you might have set something incorrectly. Check the settings on the misbehaving router carefully. Not many people know that the machine field allows manual input. Check that you didn't accidentally type any more letters after "Fermenter" in there.

Yeah, i didn't manually type anything in. I've had 4 or 5 people on the server check the set-up, and no one can see any problems. I don't think the router is compatible with the fermenter when allocating between the 2 slots. Sometimes, the sapling is placed in the slot where the fertilizer should be.

Just seems the router can be hit and miss. I placed one adjacent to a macerator, and it didn't even register it in the machine filter options....but it picked up all the other surrounding machines, and they weren't even connected to the network.

(mindcrack v8 seems to be buggy as hell, so not sure if this has an impact)
