Fermenter, how to use?

Im just new at this and i wanted to make some fuel for my Bio Generator.
I tried this:

Do you have power applied to the Fermenter? Peat / Stirling / Steam / Biogas engine, etc.

Fermenter makes biomass for biogas engines..... simply add water + any naturally rotting vegetation (saplings, wheat, cactus, sugar cane, mushroom, plantballs) and either fertilizer, manure or mulch and it makes biomass.

Also needs power!!

Ok tried that, but now my redstone engine which i placed against it with a redstone torch/lever behind it wont turn on

Redstone engines will not power any machines except a buildcraft pump, you need any of the other engines, - try steam engine (Coal + water).

Used a steam engine and it works now.

Redstone Engines WILL power Thermal Expansion machines, last I checked anyways.

Anyway if you can sit and wait for a redstone engine powered machine to run at the speed it does you have a ton more patience than I do.

Edit - 15 minutes later my redstone engine powered pulveriser still hasn't started processing 1 ore .... yeah they might add power but they are nothing like practical to use

Even better, though... Your biogas engine, when you get some biomass into it, can be used to power the fermentor to build up a reserve more quickly, then build a couple more biogas engines and start your power grid.

As a suggestion, look into redstone conduits.

I use the redstone engine to pump it out of the fertilizer to the generator.

Yeah this thread got kinda side-tracked, redstone engines are only practical to use on wooden pipes and BC pumps. You can try and use em on other things if you want results a week later.

even better, redstone engines don't output to conductive pipes anymore, just directly to machines and suction pipes. Which means that if you put your redstone engine up against a pulverizer and leave it there for a week you will come back to an exploded machine
