I'm just wondering what are some cool ways to have words or labels other than the old vanilla sign?
I have a very fancy room full of intra linking books around the overworld, and just having signs will look really lame.
What do you all use for labelling your stuff?

In the case of mystcraft books I'd enable the floating labels. Don't know why that defaults to off now, other than perhaps to advertise to people that it actually can be turned off. MESSAGE RECEIVED, lol.

How about monitors from CC or Nuclear control? I don't know what kind of "look" the room has though, the technology may clash with a library setting.

Are you referring to when the words of the dimension appear in front of it when you get close? Can that be enabled for servers?

Also, I've seen the industrial monitors in a world, but they were slanted, how do you do this??

Advanced Industrial Panels can be slanted via their menu. They can also have their text and board color changed.

The render labels probably has to be enabled server side as well.

Advanced information control panels have slant and thickness sliders in the GUI.

Industrial information panel from nuclear control are really cool
You can even automate them to change text on them (used rp2, dunno about other methods in 1.5, but probably computercraft)

Think the main method has been mentioned enough already, Industrial Information Panels are awesome...of course it depends on what the room looks like on whether they will fit in or not. If it's not a very techy looking room...signs might still look better. Colored text on signs might help as well...I haven't looked into this in a while though so I'm not sure if colored sign text is available in certain modpacks.

This also reminds me of something that annoys me...in Unleashed, if you use colored stuff to make certain things (like crafting tables for instance...can make them pink/green/etc)...it doesn't work on signs though sadly .

I watched Direwolf20's latest Youtube video (Forgecraft2 s2e25) after posting here. Guess what he's building and hopefully finishing on the next segment?

Computer/Turtle organization of the Linkbook room on their mining age world. You may want to check it out for ideas, and he also makes his code for the Turtle and computer available.

Yes, he did say that this was based on something he previously did, he just didn't say what series. In fact it's the same code, he just had to add this incarnation's turtle id. Also, the previous version used 3 turtles, this uses 1.

GregTech Industrial Panel things are quite cool, but can be expensive, and as for Chests aren't very practical. CC is another good option.

Did they fix the bug with turtles grabbing books from mystcraft receptacles? It used to crash our server.

If I need a fancy chart someplace to tell me what the items actually mean, so be it.

Direwolf20's S2E26 is up, showing the completed Linkbook system. Direwolf said there's a bit of extra code that he will go through if enough people comment that they want to see it.

I should also point out that their server is running on MC 1.6 and is functioning as a test-bed for a lot of 1.6 mod updates in preparation for an apparent 1.6 Direwolf release.

It works if you have let's say 20 frames.
But if you are like me and have 1-2 chests for every individual item you will end up with over 100 frames. Which will cause quite some fps lag.
