but sadly alot of people still think that b**** printscreen is better then F2.
it seems that quite a few people take screenshots of minecraft through printscreen, then edit it in paint and share a quite low quality and badly cropped screenshot.

for those people, try using F2, and afterwards go to the screenshots folder in your minecraft folder, you'll be surprised.

As long as someone knows his way around Paint, there's absolutely no reason *not* to use it. The difference in quality, when saving a cropped image as a .png in paint is really negligible for a screenshot. Don't believe me? Here, have a comparison:

F2 PNG, edited with Photoshop CS3:
f2_crop.png

Print/Screen PNG, edited with Paint:
paint_crop.png

Yes, there IS a tiny difference, but it's not really big enough, to be taken into account.

Better yet, F1 + F2. Hides the GUI overlays, crosshairs, and the oh so telling list of forty-two "Screenshot saved at..." messages. Less noise = more message.

if people know how to do it, yes, the quality isn't a problem, but sadly because those people who use printscreen don't know it, the quality is horrible.
thus this topic in the hope of reaching those people and having them learn about F2

I find it way more annoying, having a screenshot of 2560 x 1440 posted, on which we see a redstone torch and a repeater and the question belonging to the shot is some sort of "Why does this not give a signal to block X?" - having the construct centered on the screen with about 50 blocks on each side of a beautiful landscape with nothing of importance displayed. Not only are most browsers not able to display fullsize screenshots even if these are in a native monitor resolution, but it also costs bandwith and space. It does not matter which way achieves the screenshot - the postproduction is the key. So let people learn how to properly use the selection tool - I can live with artifacts or red.paintbrush.writing, but not oversized monsterscreenshots. But that's probably just me. ^^

in other words shrink down your MC window then press F1 followed by F2 and upload from the screenshot folder
