I'm trying to set up a biofuel system with redwood saplings, and while they work for biomass since the update a couple weeks ago, they don't seem to like going into the fermenter automatically. Namely, hoppers don't feed them in, and attempting to pipe them in results in saplings on the ground. If this anything that can be changed with a config or an update that's come out more recently, or am I stuck waiting until either Forestry or Extrabiomes updates to fix it (assuming that's even going to happen, since it may be considered a balance thing)?

That's a weird bug since pipe and hopper usually put stuff in random place, no matter if it fit or not. Have you tried redpower tube or router?

Tubes seem to work, as do relays, so I could use a relay for the saplings in place of the hopper easily enough. I'd prefer to stick with just buildcraft pipes here, though, just for the sake of using only one system to keep things simpler. It'd also mean I'd need to add an overflow chest in for the mulch, since currently it's happy to go into the hopper when the fermenter is full, and I can't put it in through the top via a relay (the fermenter only accepts mulch and whatnot from the bottom when tubes are used, and the bottom is occupied already). A router might be able to work, but I really haven't played around with routers enough to know how to use one, and for stocking a single machine, it seems like kind of a waste.

If this is a problem with hoppers, would Routers work? (I'm just trying to think of a system that handles things differently, and I think Routers can choose what slot to put stuff in)

I tested this out last evening.

Buildcraft + fermenter isn't working. Even with oak saplings.
Hopper + fermenter isn't working either.
Tested out positioning the pipes to any side, no difference, not functional.

Water works fine.
Pumping out biomass is fine.

Tubes, Routers work fine.

So, I figured it was how it worked. But I'm guessing from this topic - this is unusual behavior?

Just testing it now, oak saplings seem to be working fine in a hopper, and I know mulch was working fine with buildcraft pipes and a hopper (which is how it's worked for as long as I've been using FtB), so I don't think it's a bug with how the fermenter's interacting with BC.

I don't think it's a problem with hoppers so much as a problem with how the Extrabiomes saplings are being handled. Forestry machines are generally pretty smart about where they put incoming items, so that probably isn't the issue. I imagine routers would work fine, where tubes also worked, but again, I'd prefer to use a single system if possible.

It sounds like this isn't something that can be fixed with a quick update or a config change, though. Ah well, guess I'll just wait for an update that makes saplings work right.

You're doing something wrong because BC pipes feeding oak saps into fermenters work just fine for me. I have oak saps barrel > autarchic gate on wood pipe underneath it 'redstone off - pulser' > 3 gold pipes > diamond pipe above fermenter with oak sap in black filter > item tesseract on right side of diamond pipe which links to another item tesseract sat on top of the sap barrel (to loop back into the barrel any saps that won't go into the fermenter because it's already full). Works perfectly across 3 separate fermenters. Haven't tried it with XB saps as they don't work with Steves Cart tree farm but I'll try it tomorrow and report back.
