In theory, use. But killing villagers makes sense too. But only if one uses a sacrificial knife to do so, as a reminder. Not sure you get the full 2000 LP per villager with a Well of Suffering. I'm sure that @Padfoote should know, mind you.

It shouldn't matter that much if I'm dropping hundreds of them in though, right?

Or maybe I could chuck in splash potions of healing to keep them alive a bit longer. #Notsadistic

Btw: Infernal mobs with the regeneration ability can outheal the well of suffering.

Witches are a good, server friendly alternative to a mob spawner in a Well of Suffering, but manually sacrificing villagers still wins.
