I am some what new to FTB, maybe like a months experience. Sorry if my questions seem dumb or cloudy.

In the MindCrack pack..
What is the best/fastest energy source? (regardless of material costs)
What is the most efficient energy source? (realistic/renewable)

When I played direwolf20 I was using a geothermal setup, pumping lava from the nether then transferring it to the overworld via railcraft & mystcraft. Now the only way to move the lava is with enderchests which aren't as fast. Would advanced solar panels be better?

Fusion is the best/fastest regardless of cost, and the costs are ridiculous.

Almost energy source is effectively renewable through some method ingame, and efficiency is debatable between. No real clear answer as it depends what you find realistic, how you play, etc.

I'm personally shooting for two methane powered HP boilers, powering magma crucibles, pumping the lava made into thermals.

The trick is centrifuging rubber wood for methane.

There are a lot of other things that you can centrifuge for methane. I use Potatoes, Carrots, Raw Meat, and Watermelon. Since I have farms set up that produce more than I need, I have no shortage of supply. :)

Rubberwood give 4 methane cells per cycle though. And has the same cycle time as the others, so 1 centrifuge can just about keep a 36 tank HP boiler going. The exact ratio is like 11 centrifuges to 10 HP boilers. Not likely to run that many boilers, so more reasonable count is one centrifuge for each 36 HP boiler + 1 extra centrifuge.

1 forestry rubber tree farm for every 2 centrifuges.

How are Enderchests not as fast? Lava pump to Liquid Transposer/Ender Chest set up should be plenty fast for all your buildcraft and IC2 needs, at least until mid/late game.

My lava /enderchest system is capable of running 30 Gregtech geothermal generators, keep 2 industrial centrifuges full of lava for copper/tin/electrum, and run 10 magma engines (my major BC energy supply. AND I have to shut the lava system down occasionally just because I hate thinking I'm maybe wasting energy keeping the system powered when my iron tank is stuffed full of lava...

Still, I'm at the moment building a system to hopefully run a 36hp boiler off of cactus & sugar cane converted to biofuel. Not because I need it, because I can :)

I'll post a picture later, basically I have a lot of cows in individual 1x1 pens, above each one if a deployer and a filter. The filter only pulls milk bucket. The deployer milk the cow, and sends it into a liquid transposer. Then I have it set to have one bucket back into each deployer. The milk gets pumped into a railcraft tank, max size. Then I have a pump in the nether, which pumps into a liquid transposer, and fills up cans with lava. The lava cans get enderchested into the overworld, where it pulls the lava out and sends the cans back. The lava is also stored in a max size tank. Then, the milk and lava get pumped into biogas engines, and that's how I generate MJ.

I dunno, I just pumped lava in to be safe. I'll see what happens If I don't pump in lava.
