Can you be more precise about the error you get ? A screenshot of the launcher maybe ? How to you know it failed ?

Please note that after the "main download" (about 100 MB) there is another small progressbar for sound packages etc... which migh take up to 15mins, or even more !

What does this error says ?

Edit "Oops just saw the first message"

Go to "%appdata%", then to "ftblauncher" then to "ModPacks" and delete the whole "direwolf20_1_6_4" folder.

Then go to your installation folder (the one you chose in the "OPTIONS" tab in the launcher) and delete the "direwolf20_1_6_4" folder.

Then start the launcher again and start the download of the pack (please choose the latest version of the pack)

I have been hearing that a lot in the past few days. Where are these sound packages downloaded from? Because my initial download takes about 30 seconds - meanwhile the packages have been downloading for hours.

**edit
It has been stuck on ""record\blocks.ogg"" for about 45 minutes for example.

All right,
  • Make a backup of your other modpacks if you wish to
  • Delete the whole "ftblauncher" folder in the %appdata% folder
  • Delete the whole FTB installation folder
  • Restart the FTB launcher
  • Re-do the basics launcher settings
  • Re-download the pack

If this is not working, this is not the FTB launcher's "fault", so I'll tell you what to do next !

I'm having the same problem (posted here: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/java-exception.36061/) and did what you instructed above. My backup PC is still downloading the "2nd part" (ogg files) and I don't get why it's taking so long.

That being said my main machine is done and still getting the java exception the OP mentioned. If you have futher steps I could try please let me know.

You have both the 64bit and the 32bit version installed. Remove the 32bit version and this error should go away.

Same as any other program from Programs & Features within the control panel. When you bring up your list of installed programs there will be one that most likely says 32bit remove that one.
