This is something I've wanted to do for a while. I decided to give Ultimate a try, but I really do not want to go through the entire early game again, especially if I have to do it yet again during the 1.5 update (Azanor is thinking of making fairly substantial changes to Thaumcraft again). I also thought this would make a good setup for some sort of map or story-driven mod at a later date.

My idea is that the player is some sort of astronaut, and that the world of Minecraft is a word upon which he or she is dropped. To that end, the player starts with a drop ship full of basic supplies to get them started. The design so far is made of Gregtech aluminum blocks, XYCraft viewers, an IC2 reinforced door, a Redpower 2 inverted lamp, two levers, and a bed. After that, there's some Applied Energistics storage and some IC2 power generation. The question is what I should pack the drop craft with that makes narrative sense (astronaut on mission) and is not overpowered. So far, I have a full set of MachineMuse's armor equipped with basic plating in all positions, a MV cell in the chest, shock absorbers in the feet, and kinetic generators in the legs. I also have a Reliquary handgun, 8 magazines filled with normal bullets, and 128 more bullets in reserve.

This may be a very stupid question (i like the overall idea, really) but: How does one open the reinforced door from the outside? I mean, don't they behave similar to iron doors and need a redstone signal to open/close?

if you really want to muck about with someones head and make this a real hardcore map.

Water world. Make an endless ocean and build a fallen civliantion scartted about with story explaining how they all died becuase someone forgot to turn off the auqaus acumliator.

Man I can't wait for MCedit to update to handle modded maps

Neat idea. Last time I started a new map it was just one Ender Chest.
This looks way better :)

With 1.5 it seems I am going to create a colony with some villagers

also if you want to make stuff look like it dropped in. Check out Sethblings filters. He has one that allows you to spawn in blocks to make structures. So you could have it spawn a suply drop when the player gets close.

Well some food rations would make narrative sense. Maybe use IC's canned food to simulate MREs?
Something to drink would also be logical, but may be unnecessary since water probably won't exactly be in short supply given that this is Minecraft. :p

Actually, there is only one lever to control the door, just on the inside and to the left. Since the player is supposed to start in the drop ship and it is darn near impossible to turn off the lever from the outside, the door can't be closed on the player. The other lever is on the lamp to turn it on and off.

So, food supplies are definitely on the table. Maybe a basic non-diamond drill and a chain saw as well. The AE storage system is starting to feel like it is going to go unused until touchdown. Maybe the parts for a single small Forestry wheat farm. After that, it is all on the player.
