Do you suffer from bad short term memory?

I was just wondering how many people have to play the game like me. As in, every recipe you have to look up in NEI (no matter how many times you've made it), and even after seeing the pattern you sometimes forget when you go to make it. There are times where I have to look 3-4 times before I get a pattern right.

Been watching a lot of LPs where people never look up items, they know exactly what they need and where it needs to go in the 3x3 grid. It amazes me, I didn't think my memory was terrible (knew it was bad), but it sort of depresses me watching these people do things that take me 5 minutes in 30 seconds. Surely these people are the minority that have been playing the game regularly for over a year?

Do you have to look up the majority of the items you make, and how long have you been playing?

In some ways I do it simply to use the "shift-click ? Button" to have it auto pick my items from inventory to craft.

Been playing FTB since it came out and I played some tekkit before then

I don't think that that's short term memory.

I'll tell you what is though, forgetting what you've been doing while you're doing it. I go to the store-room to grab what I need, forget why I'm going to the store in the first place, end up doing something else.

Happens to me... constantly.

After about 200 hours I think I got the electrical circuit down. And the piston. Machine block and advanced machine block, uhh I *think* I know them. Only made these items a million times.

Things like actual machines just baffle me though, I have a hard time even remembering the names of machines let alone HOW to make them. You make them once in each game, and your done. I forget the pattern 3 seconds after I made it and I won't make it again probably for another month.

Engines, even though i'll make 2-3 dozen of them a game I have to look them up everytime.

Just an hour ago I had to look up the recipe for iron furnace xD just couldn't think if it really was like a furnace but iron..

Minecraft for me is just like real life: I go from the storage room to the tech room and I forget what I should craft.
Then I go back and realize I forgot something in the tech room.
Repeat for three minutes.

I generally remember what a recipe needs. But I rarely remember the order that they go in. I always mix something up.

This effect is multiplied when you have lag. You learn what is in each chest, or give up and use AE, but until my system is set up my mindset is:
"Okay, so I'll have to open up 3 chests for this item, and two more for this item...then I'll have to run over there and lag it out on the way while the chunks and the graphics load, or I can just not do any of it".

I take them. I think they have a significant effect. The science is pretty strong but I doubt we'll ever see them marketed commercially at scale. Talk to me if you want more details.

not only do I forget what I am doing sometimes while getting the neccesary ingrediants I get distract by something else and then forget what im doing in the first place

It's been proven if you enter a door you tend to forget what you're doing.

I'd say it applies in MC.

It is not that I have a bad memory it is just I really have no need to remember. Some stuff sticks but I have other things to worry about lol.

I quite frequently (read: all the time) forget what I was doing when I'm about to go do it.

This includes making sense when posting.

Get far enough into AE, and you don't even have to remember recipes anymore.
