Do you like to hide your machinery behind the scenes?

It depends on what I am building architecturally, but most of the time if I hid them I would have nothing to show anyone because in most of my buildings the machinery is the entire point. If I wasn't going to show it I may as well put the machinery in another age and just teleport the input and output around with tesseracts.

Buildcraft stuff I tend to show, IC2 stuff I usually hide in separate "Maintenance" rooms.

Mainly because I think the BC/TE/Forestry/RC stuff actually looks cool, whereas IC2 is ugly wires and blocky generators.

depends on the thickness of the walls I'm working with but generally I just find the easiest way to make it work.

Why would I do that..

My base has wires going around the room in the most inefficient way possible, with more cables than needed. I also have dispensers and water flooding the room leading to stuff for sorting.

I like having ice bases with liquiducts filled with lava for "heating". I'll show some cabling or put some pointless cables around if I'm going for the whole SPACE!!! look. I also tend to run the redstone conduits under the floor and show them with glass, they look classy.

I hide my tesseracts though.

I hide everything. If I can't hide it then I rip out that part of my base and I wall it off.

If it looks bad from the outside then I'll put some grass over it. I've been studying the way grass and dirt generate, and if you can copy the method you can make things look quite nice by just turning them into a hill.

The real reason I like to make a mess with my stuff is simply that I want my stuff to look like an actual machine room from a factory (I've been to those and it is just gravy for an FTB room designer - my uncle works at Volkswagen).
I just hide IC2 wires because it looks preetier that way - and to me, it doesn't give the feel of beauty that stuff like pipes and conduits and liquiducts give to me.
Especially because I have a simple and futile system using Logistic Pipes that is just for the looks - I love stuff traveling through pipes like "I gotta go to where I belong!"

The way I hide stuff is situational. If its huge showy engines for power generation, then they get all the pomp they deserve. If its a scrap machine for a matter fab, not so much, as in that case the fabricator is the centerpiece.

My rule of thumb; if it looks cool andd kinda fits, let it be. If not, change it.

Darn tny table keyboard.

I'm sorry.

I suppose the reason I make my base look as haphazard as possible with water flowing everywhere and machines strewn about reflects my actual organization patterns in real life. My room is a complete mess. My backpack is a complete mess. My mind is a complete mess. My hair is a complete mess. My hair product cabinet is a complete mess. But if I ever need a machine or a paper or a pair of pants or a bobby pin or a certain hairspray or conditioner or dye for my friend, I know EXACTLY where I last left it. I never really saw the usefulness of organizing things. I don't care how other people judge me on it, and I'm not a super forgetful person like youtubers or a lot of people in general. I always have that thought of where I last left something, back in the corner of my mind. If I need a shirt or pants, I don't use my closet most of the time. I just dig around exactly where I left it, iron it, and get some bitches female or male monogamous companions.

I kind of do both. I like having a floor of my base just for wiring and piping.

I try to hide power power lines and liquid lines, although I normally leave BC pipes showing. Maybe it's because I like watching the items zip around inside the pipes. :D
