Start on SSP, following the Direwolf20 Season 6 Let's Play, it''l help you more than anything... There's an installation video on the playlist as well so you don't have to worry about anything.

However first thing you should do is forget everything you know about minecraft, vanilla knowledge will help you for about a day playing a mod pack;)

Playing "vanilla" on an xbox is a double handicap...

Example: Rooster Teeth (a company specializing on xbox game videos of all types) did a couple of episode arcs on real PCs a couple of month's back. Keep in mind that only one of the guys was current on PC MC.

The first was just after 1.6 was released, and their goal was to get horses for a jousting contest. It was hilarious seeing them scatter to the 4 winds as if they were playing in the limited size xbox world and get lost, and then seeing them be unable to craft a worktable or simple tools thanks to the console "autocraft" setup.

The second set was slightly modded. They played Galacticraft with 3-Stooges efficiency. With expected results... lots of asphyxiation.

I have to watch this.
Anyways I also reccomend going to the vanilla minecraft wiki and memorizing the recipes if you haven't already.

They've actually done a ton of xbox MC vids that are awesome as well. I recommend starting from the beginning...youll understand a lot more that way:) Just go to youtube and search for roosterteeth. Then go to the playlists and select minecraft. Unfortunately they are in reverse order so you cant just play all. Also, be aware they are very heavily xbox players, only 1 pc person ( ryan ), so whenever theyre on pc, they complain a lot. Theyre mostly joking, but their fans can be down right fanbois.

Anyways, OP: I strongly recommend sticking to just 1 or 2 mods at a time and learning them.

Tinkers Construct is really good at the start to learn. Next comes Thermal Expansion for automation. Add in a Buildcraft quarry a little later ( TEs dynamos can power a quarry as long as you use a conduit between them. ) Starting out at this point I would recommend avoiding IC2...youll just end up blowing up your machines...it always happens when learning ic2.

I agree with starting on tinkers construct. Then look up how to start thaumcraft and ars magica. All 3 of those mods have in game guide books. For the technical mods do a search for mod spot lights on them by direwolf20. Things like buildcraft, railcraft, thermal expansion, ender storage, applied energistics, steves carts. I would avoid Industrial craft 2 exp. Its changed so much and there isnt a wiki out atm that goes over everything. You could watch the direwolf20 forgecraft 2 season 2 play series. There is like 52 episodes but its for minecraft 1.6 and alot of the mods in this pack are the same or very similar.
