This was made on a mindcrack server, and was working about an hour ago

; I haven't made any changes to the engines themselves or any of the conductive piping, and it only started the most recent time I turned them on. I cannot get them to transfer power to the refineries, and if I leave them like this the pipes will explode when full. I also asked my friend to restart the server to try and fix it, but that had no effect on the problem

Weird! I don't know a direct solution to that problem, but if it's an option to switch to redstone energy conduits instead of conductive pipes, they should work a lot better.

Do the refineries have work to do?

If they have nothing to do and there is nothing else on your network drawing power then the power will build on the first pipe after the wooden conductive pipe.

everything was wired up correctly, and was working prior to this; the conduit worked for now, though I've never used it before so I'm still looking into what it can be used for

again, if all your machines energy buffers are full, there will be nowhere for the energy to go and it will block up like this, then explode.

You have no idea how much this happened to me until I figured out the buffer thing.

I would be all "It was working fine before when I frist put it all up...." yeah becuase the buffered were all emtpy and it can take a bit for them to fill.

You should really treat the disease (producing unused power) rather than the symptom (power buildup in a pipe).

Like others mentioned in the thread you could use energy conduits or one of the many forestry/railcraft machines that always draw power and then the buildup will disappear.

That doesn't really fix the inefficiency of producing say 50 MJ/t and only consuming 35 MJ/t.

The engines should be off or have an alternate use when their main task is done/offline. You can use buildcraft gates to control the engines.

I have them wired up in banks of three, and only turn on enough to run what I need them to(I normally play in survival, used creative to take aerial pics, so every resource counts); I've started looking into forestry as well as thermal expansion(I've never used either) as solutions to excess power buildups
