Endstone brick is a good option if you like how it looks and have the infrastructure/access to the end.

if you have access to the end, its easy to make of course. otherwise, you can get one endstone via obsidian and an ender pearl with the smeltery, then use an alkahest to generate 16 endstone per redstone.

Another option is frost bound brick or snow brick by using a glacial precipitator, or infernal brick using the alkahest again.

I personally like bone bleached brick but that stuff is expensive.

I love railcrafts decorative blocks. The easiest to come by is probably bloodstone bricks, but quarried stone bricks and infernal bricks area also pretty easy and look awesome.

If you can get access to a badlands for mountains of clay or have a sludge boiler setup railcraft and MFR add tons of decorative blocks. Too many to list really.

My favorite among them are paved stone bricks(God help me PC you better add some slabs/stairs).

Make a chisel from Tinker's Construct. Use that on most vanilla stones to change it a bit, like stone into stone bricks. Or put some stone into a smeltery for seared stone.

I like (vanilla) concentric squares chiseled stone bricks. RP2 had recipes for it, but TC's chisel can make them too (goes right after Fancy)

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Octuple compressed cobblestone and GT iridium reinforced stone & advanced hulls/blocks with a couple of fusion coils thrown in...
yeah- I'm kidding

any glass with connected textures (thaumic/XYcraft/TiC/Quartz) can work quite well with obsidian if you like the industrial look

As for other materials- try using logs as well as planks, and track down some of the more unique trees (Darkwood looks awesome [natura nether tree]), as well as the fragments from the boneyard biomes you'll find down there.
Black is a fairly good colour for providing contrast to marble/glass/pale building stones. (seared stone/infernal brick/obsidian/black granite)
(can't find the screenie- but my old tank room was a RP smooth basalt floor, with XYglass on top- and the tanks on RC sandy brick)

Also you should probably check out the underground biomes mod

There's modded wood & planks. Redwood of any mod type is amazing. Underground Biomes adds lots of new colored stone, bricks, & marble. Other mods also add new stone that have been mentioned previously.

There there's always material from the Twilight Forest. Tower wood is an awesome building material and you can use the various blocks from dark towers to create simple drawbridges and doors without redstone. The maze stone blocks and Naga stone are great accept pieces and if you like mossy stone or cobble, you can get lots of it from TF.

There is a mod specifically for this. It's called: Chisel and it's an awesome mod if you ask me. Basically it let's you turn vanilla blocks into very nice looking blocks for free.
