Cant play LAN on material energy 4

Someone please help me and my friend because we are both running the same version of material energy 4 and when i try to "open to LAN" it opens the LAN server with port xxxxx but it doesnt come up for the other person when they are trying to join. please help

Open to LAN means that you and your friend must be using the same internet

I think you mean "use the same network".
