Problem Cannot launch FTB App

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Hi,
I recently became unable to launch the FTB app through Overwolf. It displays the logo changing colors constantly but does progress past that point. I have attempted to:
  • Uninstall and reinstall the FTB launcher
  • Uninstall and reinstall Overwolf
  • Attempt to download Overwolf in a different drive
  • Deleted the .ftba and ftblauncher folders manually in the local app folder
I found my logs and it seems to be some sort of connection issue but I have no idea how to solve this...

This is the main body of the log

Looks like you might have something that blocks, do you have a 3rd party antivirus software installed on your machine - if yes, then add exception/whitelist/exclude (or what it might be called in the software you might use), - disable the AV doesn't work - you need the sorting out.

I'm only using the default Windows Antivirus and it doesn't have the app listed as something to be blocked. I guess it could be the anti-spyware programs but that seems unlikely.

Yeah, I tried it with my anti-spyware disabled, I added the FTB App as an exclusion to the default Windows AV, and attempted to launch without using any AV protection. Still just infinitely loading.

Windows defender is not known to block it, so you should not need to do any exclusions for that.

If you blocked (or did not allow java), in windows defender firewall, then that might cause issues.

Otherwise try and uninstall it all, reboot and try again - I know there's been new releases published the last couple of days - that might fix your issue.

Yeah, I don't have anything blocked through my Windows Defender Firewall.

I attempted to reboot, to no avail. This actually occurred very suddenly for me so I wonder if the new release is what broke it for me. If there's no other solution I might just have to wait for a new release version I guess....

Bump. For me, the Overwolf download doesn't even create a folder at %localappdata%\.ftba
When even uninstalling FTBApp and Overwolf completely, upon reinstalling Overwolf, it somehow remembers the 1.21 version that was given to me by a moderator through an OPK file on the discord PM, whilst the release version - I assume - is still 1.20. I have version 1.21.13.1631

Ask on discord again then, if you got another version from someone (that I hope was one of the app devs.) - then it makes more sense that you keep that conversation there - instead of bumping on other peoples threads here.

There have been fixes rolled out during the time of this thread, so yes -that's very likely :)

Possibly a final update to this. It just happens randomly on and off. Sometimes it just spins forever and sometimes it doesn't. I launched the launcher, played for a couple of hours, closed the launcher, attempted to relaunch about 30 minutes later, app refuses to load again.

So, I have no idea what I'm doing or what is happening to cause this to happen or what causes it to become fixed again.

Try to off the firewall and antivirus, then install the FTB (without reinstalling Overwolf, looks like it works ok)
Then turn the antivirus on. And try to check you HDD with HDD Health or Victoria
