can you melt down armor in a TC smeltery?

I haven't been able to melt down steel armor but gold works well. As MigukNamja said, the armor has to be undamaged.

Wont do anything with bronze though, only way I found to break bronze armor is to throw it on the floor and hit with a DartCraft wand.
