I wonder if any of the FTB team are aware of Eloraam's status? Be nice to get an official response to the status of Red Power 2 and the bugs that have been discovered. Even a simple "Elo is busy with Real Life issues at the moment, and will look at the mod in time". Something! Anything!
It's one of those mods that once you've discovered, you really can't live without.

Well I might start replacing it with builcraft pipes soon. The main issue is routing. I'll either need to figure out another way or build a ton of diamond pipes. Does anyone have any tips?

Conduits.

/thread hehe[DOUBLEPOST=1360624070][/DOUBLEPOST]I wonder if the entitys on all your barrels could cause that kind of FPS lag? Also if you connect your barrels and put a few routers touching the edge of your barrel system you can sort everything without any pipes or tubes.

RedPower2 causes so much lag when running large setups. I got tubes and sortrons and managers and filters and sorting machines, you name it. It might help if I split the system into smaller subsystems, but that would require a complete rebuild. Oh, how I wish RedPower2 was open source.

Devs would jump on the chance to make RedPower non - laggy and useful.

Eh, I think it can be replaced with Logistics Pipes.

-Really, Logistics Pipes are 10x better than RP. Open source here too: https://github.com/RS485/LogisticsPipes
-Frames would be missed, but they're buggy, and Steve's Carts + Quarries do 80% of what people use them for anyway (Mining..... Flying ships being the other 20%).
-Volcanos would not be missed at all. People have way more problems with their generation than they are worth.
-Marble/basalt would be mildly missed, but Xycraft may have that covered.
-The circuits and wire would be missed, but they cause just as many issues as they solve. However, both circuits and wire would be missed greatly, until Minecraft re-does the redstone mechanics or invents wire.
-Transposers would be missed, but we'd just go back to Obsidian Pipes.

IMO, the laziness of Eloraam is stifling innovation. Until she officially goes AWOL, all the developers are assuming she has the pipes market cornered.

We should try not to judge Eloraam harshly for having other things to deal with besides minecraft modding. If you'd like to judge her, do it on the grounds of an incredibly selfish software license of questionable legality.

Of course then you're sort of logically required to paint Sengir with the same brush, and a few other modders. But it's possible to appreciate people's work while still saying they have flaws as people. :)

But yes, Logistics Pipes is something I really really want. And actually I experimented with PowerCraft and it seems uglier, but way less detrimental to clients than RP2.

I do appreciate her work. And I shouldn't talk bad about her, she's done a lot. Her mod is very nice, with a few (major) flaws.

Her license is very archaic. Including her approach to using her mod on even a simple server pack.

Her whole stance on copyright is very.... un-Notch like. How ironic.

And her non-commitment to fix anything is utterly frustrating. The whole situation is frustrating.

Unless the forge & FTB folks know something we don't, RP2 seems like a very questionable thing to maintain in the packs. But you can imagine it'd be hard to just remove.

PowerCraft seems like a pretty good alternative. Its license is awesome (albeit absurdly verbose; BSD and a non-resale provision would have been more than sufficient). It has all the digital logic stuff you'd want, Forge compatibility, additional interesting machine mechanics, and more. The worst you can say about it is that it is simply no match for redpower 2 in terms of artistry.

Ya I was going to suggest gates.. Looks like someone already mentioned it.. Gates really are the Equalizer for buildcraft pipes.. without them they are just to flawed.

Yeah.

The only thing I use Conductive Pipe for anymore is connecting my Engines to a Redstone Energy Cell, and turning the engines on when it needs energy. From there it's Conduit all the way to the machines.

I actually double-buffer my Energy Cell (one feeds into the other). I have gates configured so that when the first one is empty, the engines turn on until it's full.

You can actually use conduits on both sides, the gate doesn't have to be in the system for it to work, it just has got to be close to the cell.

If Elo does drop RP development...I don't see what would be keeping anyone from making a RP2 alternative mod. If I remember correctly, nobody but the content author has control over "inspired-by" content. My only issue with Logistics Pipes is that I could never seem to get them working properly, RP2 was just a simpler way of getting what I wanted done in an efficient manner. Though, as one might guess, I do support the motion to try and get PowerCraft into FTB, regardless of what happens to Red Power. The logic's a lot easier to deal with, and conveyor belt/elevator/descender systems make an excellent alternative to carts for travel.

Did I miss something.. Since when is Elo not updating redpower? She has always been silent.. Never talks to people other then on the forgecraft forums..

Nothing new with this... It took what 18 versions of Minecraft to get a new Redpower anyway.. Someone link me the info about her being done please.

Yeah, but every conduit-to-device transfer gets taxed 5%.

So if you have Engines - Conduit - Cell - Conduit - Machine, you get taxed 0.95 * 0.95 = 90.25% efficiency.

It's far easier to use conductive pipe and only eat 0.01% * the short length of pipe (varies, i heard it's broken).

Yeah, that's what I've been wondering about myself. It was just like *snap* and all of sudden everyone seems to think that she dived off a cliff or something. I'm already seeing people go trough the "I don't need it anyway" stage, it's funny.

Wishful thinking aside, I don't see her dropping it completely in the foreseeable future. Considering that one thing that happened. Otoh, I don't see her being very enthusiastic about development either.
I'd love King Lemming to convert the good parts of RP to TE, TE is a superb mod now but with elements of RP in it, man, start the drooling now.....
Would be nice.

Ah, true.
