I did not have a better place to put this so I thought I would put up a thread to see what books/series you guy's have had and tell each other if it is a good book and if it is worth buying.

i'm guessing he means books in RL. maybe should ask in the general discussion section
Oh. Thought he meant in game. Because it's in FTB. And since general discussion is just another half of "mod discussion". They really should just merge those 2 so i don't have to have separate tabs.

The Disk world series by Pratchet
The Dune series by Frank Herbert
The Worship series, by Frank Herbert again
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb

Arg, there are so many books that are really good, and I don't have the time recently to read all the new good ones...

Being French, the books I just told about are incredible translations from English, so my guess is that it is equally well written in their initial language.

Guinness World Records is a personal favorite of mine. I don't read a lot of fiction, but I love reading about all the things going on in the world.
I read about the research with the LHC when I can online. Actually, any cutting edge research is worthy of my attention. I also sometimes check up on how many private Space companies are running, and occasionally what they're doing.

Honor Harrington series by David Weber.
Crystal Singer Trilogy by Anne McCaffery.
Brainships series by Anne McCaffery and others.
Posleen War series by John Ringo.

And that's the extremely short shortlist.

man.. where to begin.. or end for that matter.
my next conquest. I mean book to read is the hitchikers guide to the galaxy. just waiting for it to finally be my turn to borrow it. (darn waiting lists)
otherwise... I like a lot of the John ringo stuff.
David Weber is good too. I both own and have borrowed quite a few titles.
David Gerrold got a lot a couple of decent series going. very entertaining.
Frank herberts Dune series. also good. altho a bit slow at times. same can be said for Isaac Asimov foundations series.
I robot is a must read. it's been an inspiration for a lot of sci fi writers, and is still worth a read imho.
then there is some of the fine stuff written by Heinlein. well a lot of good stuff really. forget watching starship troopers. it's a pulp film that has no resemblance to the book. none at all really. the book however is very well written.

I've also read the pillars of creation series mentioned upthread.
Tolkien has his place too. I read the Hobbit in a single weekend, then spent the following vacation a month later with my nose firmly planted in the LOTR trilogy. took me a week of heavy reading, but it rained the whole time. well,,, at least i think it rained ;) Was a nice little trip into middle earth that.

I think I'l just stop here.... there are just too many books and authors to mention them all.

Here are a few more:
Skulduggery Pleasant series (Derek Landy)
Black Jewels Trilogy [and ONLY the trilogy! ] (Anne Bishop)
I Am Not a Serial Killer [and following books] (Dan Wells)
The Hunger Games Trilogy [yes, these came before the movie] (Suzanne Collins)
The Night Angel Trilogy (Brent Weeks)
The Last Rune series (Mark Anthony)
Autumn Tetralogy (David Moody)
The Eyre Affair and Lost In A Good Book (Jasper Fforde)
Graverobbers wanted and Single white psychopath seeks same (Jeff Strand)
Any book of "The Smoky Barret" series (Cody McFadyen)
Necromancer (Martha Wells)
Symphony of Ages Hexalogy (Elizabeth Haydon)

...
I'll stop now. Obviously about 90% of the above books would be on my "must read" list, too. And my list is nowhere near complete, as well. ;)

Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix
Heh, derp on my end - I already read that. I just never heard the original english name for the trilogy. ^^
