Hi,

First time using RC Boilers, I have made solid fuel boiler fueled with a SC tree farm using RP sorting and managers and TE sawmills and barrels for storage. But once the boiler has reached maximum heat level I have an excess of wood.

How do you manage to keep the boiler supplied but not so that you over spill capacity?

Thanks

If you run a diamond pipe to the boiler, and give it another inventory to overflow to (barrel or chest, doesn't really matter). And add in a gated pipe on the other end to start piping stuff in when the inventory/temp gets low.

Also, SF boilers will draw fuel from adjacent inventories.

Not come across this problem myself yet since my chests aren't full yet but I'd say putitng a void pipe to cover overflow. If that's not what you'd like then another solution could be to add another barrel (or more if you wish) and put an RP restriction tube on it so it will only direct items to that inventory if the primary inventory is full.

Hope this helps.

Guys, you might want to check the images he linked. There's a redpower tube network and even a Manager on the boiler :p

spardha, if you configure the manager to keep a specific amount of planks stocked (for example, three stacks), then it will only request that much, and continually attempt to hold that level. There will be no issue with overflow.

Use golems. If anything fills up they will wait untill there is space.

Or any of the much more sensable ways that don't involve golems running around, and thus are inferior.

Thanks for all the reply's :D

@Omicron the manager requests 4 stacks. but with the tree farm constantly running i have way to many planks jamming the system I guess when i have enough diamonds i can increase the barrel to hold more stacks. Also I could have an overflow barrel or too but each would require a manager, so i think that would become a pipe mess...

Managers are a bit overkill if your farm is constantly running. Place a chest next to boiler, let it fill up with planks, and then send the overflow elsewhere, either to storage, a void system, or a recycler setup.

My planks and charcoal are sent down to my basement, first destination is the boiler chest, and then I have the tube split into two other destinations. The 2nd destination are some IC2 generators (for some minor EU), and the 3rd destination is my storage system. If the storage area is full, then it get's diverted to my recyclers.

Only downside is that if your treefarm stops for any reason, your boiler will starve.

I think it will even pull from a barrel too. Not sure though. A chest is a good enough buffer.

Think i need to reduce the size of my tree farm, i put the chest in next to the boiler and i filled it in seconds

A 36HP boiler needs 11 logs (=66 planks) per 62.5 seconds, when on max heat.
Simplest solution: Let your TE sawmill run continously. Feed the planks into a double chest, which connects to 2 36HP boilers and 1 36LP boiler. Overflow of planks feeds a TE steam engine, which feeds the TE sawmill. I'm not sure what the maximum input of the sawmill is. It is possible, that you need to feed an RE cell with the engine, which in turn feeds the sawmill. Overflow after the steam engine is pumped into IC2 generators for a little bit of EU.
Depending on which kind of sawdust you get (depends on the GregTech config): TE sawdust: autocraft comp. sawdust in an ACT which gets furnaced to charcoal. GT sawdust: compress to wooden plate. Both can again be used as an energy source.

I think it's awesome (I truly do) that in the middle of two HP and one LP boilers, you'd feel the need for a separate engine to run a sawmill. A man after my own heart. :D
