I wouldn't expect thaumcraft to make it in. It might be slightly time consuming, but it's pretty easy. And there's not really a ton you can do to make it harder. Even changing the recipes for the item wouldn't have that big of an impact likely.

You could stage it in such a way that you can't get started with thaumcraft until you get X metal to make your first wand....etc. It's possible to stage it, just a question of whether he wants to do it or not.

This is true, instead of the iron capped wand, it could be an electrum capped wand. I imagine that you'd also have to have thaumium made of something other than iron. Once you make your first wand, you'd still have access to a plethora of stuff. Though if you were to change the amounts of vis required and stored in each wand, that would help stage stuff.
Wand caps have recipes, you could just change the requirements in those recipes to be equal in nature to what Blood Magic requires to get started. Or thaumeters. Make then require the rare metals you don't get until later in the game.
i feel like alot of recipes for witchery should either have harder to get items or should have more than 1 step to get the needed item. or even use mob drops for some recipies. make it so that you do have to fight mobs or make a mob trap.

I'm concentrating on getting a version out to Pakratt and on to the Patreon server. Then a few days after off to the other streamers on my list, then a full public release.

I don't remember pak changing anything in 1.x when he played. Except maybe the darkness, but that was a broadcasting thing. All the streamers/tubers had to do that.
To make this even more stupidly hard you can add a thrust mod THIRST MOD I SAID THIRST MOD

And when that happens it damages your pants armor and make it easier for mobs to detect you until you've spent a little bit of time in water (preferably flowing water).
I'm hoping that BnB 2.0 has Enviromine... You have to worry about temperature, water, and sanity :-D As if worrying about your own sanity isn't bad enough, you then would get to worry about sanity of your character as well.
