What's the mod that shows you what kind of block you are looking at? Is it in Direwolf20?

It's in NEI. Just look through the NEI's options and you'll find it.

"Show Highlight Tips"/"Hide Highlight Tips" will toggle that.

When using that:

There are a few blocks that look strange when you put the crosshair on them, such as silverwood saplings (they turn into purple polygons) and greatwood leaves which turn into silverwood leaves (only visually IIRC). Not sure if there are others.

You'll also notice it Z fighting with the minimap. To solve that I just chucked the minimap in the bottom right.

A few more Thaumcraft things as well as some Twilight Forest things end up bugging up either by changing to a different texture, or disappearing entirely displaying the missing texture.

All of these are client side and are resolved by reconnecting.
