Blaze Rods to MJ? How can I use them?

I have spent some time in the nether and I've found 5 blaze spawners and I've made myself a tier 5 blaze spawner which is already up and running, giving me loads of blaze rods I won't use.

Can I produce energy (preferably MJs or EU) with this efficiently?
 
Aargh, you guys can't be serious, you are really still using stirling engines? :confused:

You should at least use hobbyist steam engines, they are much more efficient and the only "disadvantage" over stirlings is that you have to supply water, which is easy to do with an aquaeus accumulator.

Most efficient use is in a boiler to produce MJ. If you aren't there yet, either Hobbyist Steam Engines or TE Steam Engines (produces more MJ/t when not on a steam boiler, but consumes fuel faster).

Don't use Stirling engines. Just... don't.

One T5 Blaze Spawner can support two 36 HP boilers, but you may have to settle for LP boilers if you don't have a solid steel production line.
 
Last I checked blaze rods were severely nerfed for the purposes of steam power. Not sure if they could even run one 36HP boiler anymore. Maybe one 36LP. I think they used to provide 4,000 heat but now it's only 500 or 800.

Are you playing the latest versions where the blaze rods were nerfed? Or have I missed something and they're back up again o_O
And also, do you mean supporting the boilers when they're already heated up? Because the heatup phase would be where you would use the majority of your fuel...If it's just to keep them chugging at max temperature then maybe that would still be enough (haven't tested recently!).

Even with the nerf, the sheer number of rods a Tier 5 blaze spawner produces will keep up. I mean, we're talking like a couple of stacks a minute easy. The only problem is having enough brains in jars to collect the experience so the number of experience orbs doesn't lag you out (unless you just want to do a water-kill method to get rods and not xp).
 
Since the nerf I just don't see the point in blaze rods as a fuel source. I find other sources like peat to be a better fit and renewable if done right.

800 heat or 0.8k heat (Soild Fueled Firebox)

Confirmed, boiler on burn in eats them so fast its just stupid, charcoal is better.
 
You can also go Blaze Rods into EU (Generator), then use Electrical Engines [EE] to convert the EU to MJ. Unmodified EE converts 6EU/t to 2MJ/t. You can modify the EE with a circuit board to increase MJ output, but it increases required EU. Max modification requires intricate circuit board, 2x tin electron, and 2x bronze electron tubes, increases MJ output to 14MJ/t but requires 50EU/t to produce. I think EE easily overheat, so output may be less than optimal but they will never explode and possibly overheat less often when used in conjunction with conduits.
 
One other point in newer versions blazed dont drop rods when die to water traps, tested in 152ngt v7, have not tested v8 yet.

A fully heated 36HP boiler needs 16 heat units per tick. A blaze rod gives 800 HU, means it burns within 2.5 seconds. (Which translates to 24 Blaze Rods per minute to keep the boiler running.) A T5 spawner should be able to drop way more than that.

Another option would be to run the blaze rod through a Magma Crucible and turn it into lava. 4 Blaze Rods give one bucket and it requires 8.000 MJ. This bucket delivers 18.000 MJ in a Magmatic engine. If you build 20 engines, then it means that 9 of the engines are simply overhead to keep the Magma Crucible(s) running. But the advantage is, that it scales well. You can add engines until you are at the limit of what the spawner can generate.

erm burn in..plus t5 spawners are way to op atm its silly how fast they are now, just hope SS gets a rebalanced.

btw rod is 6keu@10eu/pt

Atm SS is the new EE (well what EE was in the bad old days), one other point about SS they dont follow the mob spawning rules, you can get 2k to spawn in a room if you turn off you kill system, this is just wrong mho only.

Hum. I could swear my T5s stop at a reasonable number of spawned mobs and only spawn new ones after an old one gets killed. I will have to check on that...
