I finally updated my used mods to include the newer stuff I haven't used before. Been waiting in vain for Redpower and Xycraft to update to 1.5.2 but doesn't look like its going to happen.

Anyway, with this mod Biomes O Plenty, I love it, but wow I flew around in creative mode for 20 minutes looking over maybe a dozen different biomes for any IC2 rubber trees. Not one anywhere.

Is there a way to fix this? They shouldn't be restricted to only the Vanilla biomes.

I've found the odd tree in Birch Forest biomes I think, Otherwise I've found blacksmith chests in villages to be plentiful. They can also drop in spoils bags from mods, though I haven't figured out which mod this is yet.

Hope that helps

The only solution I can think of it they are that rare is to start the game with a cheated-in 4 saplings and build a farm from there.
If trying to play the game legit, its just way too far to search on foot to try and find 1 or 2 specific biomes they might be in. If there was a config option, or if IC2 were fixed in this way that would be best.

I never have any trouble finding IC2 trees. Just find a lush swamp. They tend to be near Mystic Groves.

Bamboo forests are also great places for IC2 rubber trees.

Are you playing Unleashed? If so, MFR's rubber can be used for all IC2 recipes, and it's considerably better to farm.

I did find some MFR rubber trees, but I find them harder to harvest because what I usually do with the IC2 trees is grow a bunch of them, and then use the gravity gun to move the "good" tree blocks into a big wall, so I can just take an electric treetap and quickly get a stack of rubber from them any time I want. The gravity gun is pretty amazing for being able to move blocks without breaking them.

yeah but don't you get more rubber from the MFR trees anyways? Just replant the saplings or build an automated tree farm.

That wall thing is more hassle than replanting the MFR rubber trees. The resin holes can close up so you will have to replace them after a while. With MFR rubber trees you simply cut the tree down and get about 5 rubber per tree plus 5 logs which equals to 5 more rubber regardless of how you process it (you get planks, too, if you use TE sawmill for it). They drop saplings like vanilla trees and grow fast, too.

I get a lot of excess saplings from them and you can just plant a whole field of them so there's a tree to cut down almost all the time.

*cough cough* watering can *cough cough*
Also, I always seemed to have trouble getting saplings from those trees.

If you need some extra sapplings, I can send you a few. It might take a while (forever) for the delivery to go from my world to yours though (hey that might be a pretty neat, but impossible idea for a mod).

Didn't think they closed up unless you over tap. Do they close up over time now?

I never had one close up unless I accidentally tried to tap it when it wasn't ready. But again, with the gravity gun I was just making a huge wall of just the resin hole blocks and it was super fast to go out and tap a bunch of them fast. I can see how an auto farm would do well with the MFR trees though. Kind of removes a mechanism from the game though. That's ok there's plenty of other stuff to play with.

I think that you can use Turtles to automate tapping trees. Just find the longest time it will take for a resin spot to open again, set up a timer thing, use turtle.place(), and the command that makes it go up. I'm too well at using LUA, so, you shouldn't ask me. But it's probably possible.

You would need a whole forest of MFR trees (and re-plant them) to get the same amount as you get from a rubber wall within a minute of tapping.

A square of 5x4 walls has 80 rubber nodes, they drop on average 2 resins. Throw them in the extractor and you get 480 IC2 rubber. That's a lot of trees to cut down, if you want to get the same amount from MFR trees. :)

Yeah but you get wood, too. So that solves two problems at once.
