An option i've been looking at is using power converters and tesseracts to turn my main power source into steam, and then use the tesseract to teleport the steam out to engines.

Steam does'nt have loss in the liquid tesseract like MJ does in the energy version.

Do it full Railcraft.
That means using the Tank Cart, the MFE cart, and so on.
It is awesome just to have carts for everything.

I do not think I want to suck your diamond drill, but it is very impressive to do it full cart.

I started it! Transformed my first EUs to steam. I think I am going to use ender tanks instead of tessaract for now, i find it easier to get 4 blaze rods + 1 ender pearl then 4 ender pearls

Grab the "Additional Pipes" modmod for BC. It can also be found named "Teleport pipes." This adds, well, teleport pipes to the buildcraft system.

Best thing ever.

Uh, energy wise, tesseracts are basicaly teleport pipes. The main diffrence being static rather then distance based loss. (And working through multiple dimensions?).

Personally I prefur to up energy production by 30% or so and use tessaracts just to ensure everythings as easy to move and compact as possable on the output end.
Same reason I warp items /then/ sort.

iirc that Teleport Pipe mod has ID conflicts and isn't really the real deal. The original was abandoned and some people took it over. I couldn't get it to work since i'm to lazy to mess with ID stuff but I doubt it'll get added. I don't think it's fully supported by anyone.

To the people transmitting steam via Liquid Tesseract... are you using liquiduct to get the steam out, and if so, does it have the same limitation of 80mB/t per connection coming from the Tesseract?

After some testing a couple weeks ago, there's about a 10% loss when converting MJ to Steam like this: Energy Cell > MJ Consumer > Energy Link > Steam Producer > Liquiduct > Steam Consumer > Energy Link > MJ Producer > Energy Cell. This is, of course because Redstone Energy Cells lose 5% of energy when they output. This means that the converters themselves seem to have lossless conversion....!
Edit: I said they lose 5% when outputting, I'm pretty sure it's inputting energy in them as well which I forgot to say :p
