I can't decide what I should use for mining nether ores as a mining laser has a chance of destroying blocks due to its destructive nature and the others are kinda slow such as the power tool or diamond drill, any suggestions?

is the mining laser the best?

In the recent versions of nether ores, a silk-touch pick will not cause the explosions.

Edit - I personally use a steel head/cobalt plate hammer from TiC with a silky jewel added. I can pretty much mine anything with it, and don't have to worry about the ores going *boom*. Just have to watch out for the single blocks of lava interspersed in the netherrack.

Anything of the iron tier or better. Explosions should not be your issue, pigmen should.

I dig into the walls, then mine out from there. I only have to worry about new pigmen spawns then rather than all the pigmen on the surface.

I just fly around with a jetpack and hope I find some Ardite, Cobalt, Lapis, or Diamonds. The other stuff I don't care about.

I haven't seriously mined nether ores (aside from the TC ones) since 1.2.5, but back then, a mining laser set to explosive mode as well as some form of flight got me so many resources in a short period of time that I didn't even bother with automated mining. It's certainly not the most efficient way to mine the nether, but it's probably the most fun.

Wand of Equal Exchange and a stack of <insert material you don't care about here>. Swaps out the nether ore, no fuss, no mess. No lava spillage and no pissed off pigmen.

I'm on 1.1.2 and pretty sure both the silky and the auto smelt picks piss off pigmen. Perhaps later versions don't, but unless I'm mistaken, pretty sure I got jumped when I tried with both. That and I've narrowly avoided lava spills in both cases. Wand of Equal Exchange for the win. Maybe a cheesy win, but *shrug*. I prefer to think of it as creative application of cross mod utilization. ;)

I'm using TConstruct_1.5.2_1.4.2.7
But, pretty sure it's been working like that for a very long time.

I tend to use the dig or dig 2 spell from Ars Magica, no angry pigmen!

dig is also useful for getting ardite and cobalt early game

Don't know if ars is included in any of the default packs... using a custom one for my brother and myself

There is actually a refinement to this use saplings\cactus or another block that will automatically drop itself as an item, you get your mining material back with no effort at all.

Remote controlled mining turtle? I like DarkBobo00's script. I can set it up in a warded glass box and run the turtle by remote without worrying about anything killing me. When I'm ready to retrieve the stuff, I fly the turtle up, and through a single removed block. I see your Nitro Creeper and raise you an impenetrable box. :D

You also can use a Force Pick with grinding and fortune for lapis and redstone ore and a grinding, heat and fortune for the ores that give you ingots.

There's also another "brute force" method. Get yourself decked out in a full suit of MPS armour, with energy shielding on all four pieces, get a nice fast pick (any type) and then... just beast mode through it all. I was always hesitant and scared of the pigmen and the exploding ores and everything, generally... with the full suit of MPS, I piss off the pigmen left and right, I can sit through nitro creeper explosions (they do still hurt a little, but meh...). Now I mine what I like, where I like, when I like. Rawr! :)

Edit to add the reason why I specified a "fast" pick. If you do hit an exploding ore block, if you mine it and its surrounding ores fast enough, nothing explodes.
