When I played Tekkit, nano armor would not let you get hurt as long as it was fully charged. Now, that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway, I am planning to go to the Twilight Forest soon and I was wondering what kind of armor I should wear because I don't have Quantum yet.

Nano is still very good, I don't believe it was nerfed, but hey, what do I know. Even so, the only armor I can think of that is better than nano comes from the twilight forest, so just stick with that.

Thanks for the response. I just go with nano then.

nano has been capped at 90% reduction, that's why you notice that you take some damage.
So, in order from the top
Quantum armor > nano armor > exo suit with full diamond > diamond suit with longfall boots > regular diamond > thaumium > blood iron> steel > steelleaf > naga scale > iron > biohazard suit (full suit only) > ironwood > gold > leather.
If you can make longfall, make them no matter what else you wear.
This list assumes the ability to put an enchant on the armor.
Without enchanting the list changes some.
The result can be argued to be different by others.

How much protection does nano really offer? And what is the charge for on it?

Minus enchants because I'm never getting to level 30 at the rate I die. lol.

So I take it nano doesn't null fall damage then and I should just wear those instead of nano boots? And then when I get quantum just replace the long falls with quantum boots?

Nano boots will absorb the fall damage up to a certain point, and then you will take damage and the boots will lose a lot of energy.

And nano does not function unless it is a complete suit, like the hazmat suit. Thus longfall being the best possible boot, replacing all other boots up to and including diamond, but nothing beyond that. With possible exception of boots of the traveler for those who have invested into magic.
Hmmm....didn't know that it needs the full suit, thanks for the tip.

Be careful in the Twilight Forest, even with quantum armor. For some reason, and I dunno if this is just me or what, the Twilight Lich can bypass some, perhaps all, of the armor's protections. I've had full quantum armor, fully charged, and still almost got killed with ridiculous ease. I can fall a mile in that suit, but I can't seem to take a few magical explosions to the face...I do not get it.

That's not how nano works. You can wear part of a nano suit, and it works fine, for what armor rating you get from what's left, like when wearing Vanilla armor. It's just a really high protection armor, that can be recharged. Nano has no "techno-magical" protections like Quantum, excepting it has a very high upper limit for falling damage if you wear the boots. They're not invincible (like Long Falls or Q Boots), but they do take almost all damage from falling.

Nano Armor has not been nerfed, protection-wise, but it has been nerfed since the version in Tekkit power-wise. Nano Armor now takes 800 EU worth of "damage" per hit. I believe back in the IC2 version in Tekkit, it was around 100. You still can swim in lava, but your batteries will give out much faster, at which point, you will become a crispy Steve.

I've got quantum legs and boots, nano helm, and a jetpack. On hard mode an angry zombie can still kill me in 2 to 3 hits.

That's because of the jetpack. It has no armor value. You're effectively walking around in Iron armor, plus flight and greatly reduced fall damage. Most of the protection of the tech armors are built in to the chest-pieces. The Nano Chest is worth 35% armor value, and the Q Chest is worth 45%. In fact, wearing Nano Boots, Legs, and a Helm with a Q Chest will make you invincible (100% armor), just like the full Q Suit.

It can also depend on how the server you are playing on is setup. I've played on some servers where the admins got "creative" and messed up the settings and broke the nano and quantum suits so they gave 0 protection whether they had power or not. Whether this was intentional or not I do not know, but the tech armours were rendered useless. Well, the gravi chest was a nice combination of jet pack and batpack but crap armour and bloody expensive.

Ah, well looks like a gravitation suit just climbed it's way to the top of my to-do list.
