A bit of a warning wrt the Weeping Angels mod by countrygamer. It has a dependency on countrygamer core (COGCore) that it mentions on the download page, NOT mentioning that that mod, has enabled by default, crafting table recipes for nether stars, the trivial conversion of cobble to gravel, gravel to sand and other trivial recipes for nether components.

This can all be disabled, but it is a bit of an unexpected surprise when your player just start crafting "stuff" that should require a lot more ... input.

Well, I've discovered that some other mod in my personal pack has a recipe for the nether star too. I'm assuming XU or one of those other similar, "bit of everything" mods.

I'd rather any Nether Star recipe requires a Nether Star to craft, to get 2 stars in return. Thus the Wither needs to be killed at least the once.

XU has one but it works only on peaceful.

Besides, what kind of recipe for a nether star are we talking about here? Is it something like "1 cobble = 1 star," or like "8 quartz blocks + 1 diamond block = star", or something like "9 diamond/emerald blocks = 1 star?" Saying its bad because it allows you to craft nether stars is like saying Extra Utilities is bad because it lets you grow ender pearls. It gives no context to an argument that relies fairly heavily on context to make its point.

This is heavily opinionated and does not necessarily make it a bad mod.

I really don't think "features" you don't like that are not documented warrent a post calling Weeping Angels a "Bad Mod."
They can, they just have to stipulate the "bad" is merely their subjective opinion.

But if that craftable nether star makes it a bad mod then that farlanders is utterly horrible as you can get netherstars AND dragon eggs via some clever cross trading they only cost emeralds and enderium.

Its not that the mod is bad because it has a recipe for nether stars.
Its bad in that it markets itself as one thing (a rather cool rendition of a mob from a TV show), but has all this other stuff enabled by default, with no mention in any of the notes.

Well... Next time you feel the need to criticize a mod make sure you elaborate.
So what you are saying is that mod reeks of amateur? I'm not sure if that makes it bad but it sure makes it seem lower quality.

Actually is there any reason why the mod would allow netherstars to be acquired so easily? (actually you didn't even mention how the mod lets you craft them?)

Its actually a high quality mod. I can recommend it to anyone who wants a mob with more interesting mechanics.

The netherstar recipe is 3 wither skulls, 4 soulsand and 2 emeralds in the crafting grid. I was actually more concerned by the trivial cobble->gravel->sand bench recipes.

Cobble to Gravel to Sand does sound quite nice, especially if it's stone to cobble too. But maybe it would be better if you Minetweakered it to require a hammer and an input of say two cobble to make one gravel.

Also, Ex Nihilo does that exact thing and no one hates. Then again, it is made for skyblock maps and requires a sift...

The server already has EnderIO (SAG Mill) and Thaumcraft (Automated Alchemy) to perform cobble->gravel->sand should it be needed. In SkyBlocks, - and in "low tech" maps where sand (via deserts) or gravel are hard to come by, these recipes are necessary. These skyblock type recipes silently hitching a ride along with a mob mod is the problem.

I know, and I understand, I'm just skipping (rope) around the problem for some much needed scope on this problem. Now, time to shoot this turkey!

Tell the author of the mod to document the recipes or ask for them to be off by default, he's an amateur and will only learn from mistakes if he knows what they are.
