When I first created a house in my first Beta 1.8 survival world, I dug into the face of what I had then called a west-facing cliff. I set up a big glass window so I could see the sunset. And the moonset, for that matter.
Later, in one of the Mojang updates (I forget which one, but it was certainly before Gamma 1.3 and was probably one of the Beta 1.9 "prereleases", i.e. Gamma 1.0), the whole sky rotated 90 degrees, so now, when I look out that window, the sun rises on the left and sets on the right. I was sad, because I couldn't see the sunset anymore.
Fun fact: When the sun, moon, and stars rotated, the clouds didn't. They used to float to the "North", relative to the Sun (which rose in the "east" and set in the "west"). Now, everything goes in the same direction- West.
