HI

Im finished playing Unleashed and am going to move onto a 1.6.4 pack and seeing as i don't have a super computer (sorry just love playing with texture packs) i was looking at the DW20 pack over the Monster. BUT i don't like BOP and am keen to see this ATG in action (want to build IN a big mountain. would it be feasible to load ATG into the DW20 pack that i have in the md pack on monster?

thanks for help peeps

If you want a big mountain with ATG, I would suggest fiddling about with the configs a bit to increase the height scale of the world so that mountains are a bit more frequent, means less generating of worlds or less exploring to find a good place. Is what I did to find a volcano, anyway.

Depending on what you want out of a mod pack, I found Horizons to be a lot of fun. There were a few things I missed out of Direwolf20 though, so I ended up taking things like JABBA, and Engineer's Toolbox, and bringing them into DW20. Admittedly, I wish I'd disabled IC2 before starting DW20.

ATG makes it too hard to get around IMO. Highlands is a very nice alternative to BoP though.

Out of all the world generation mods, ATG, Better world generation 4, BOP, and extrabiomesXL.....
Highlands is the worst, it looks like the whole world is the same thing, all dreary and dead.

The ATG with BoP and Highlands in the Monster Pack (generate world as "ATG-Alternative") is the most immersive world I have ever inhabited in minecraft. I was wondering around my world for an hour last night with Journey map on just spellbound. I can understand why OP may not like various additional biomes but with ATG generation the biomes get placed in a entirely different much more "natural" way. World generation has come a loooong way.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion. I guess if BoP is what you are used to, a Highlands world might seem colorless in comparison. I recently generated a BoP world because I want to use the Erebus mod which is incompatible with Highlands. What I liked most about it is the bright colors and grasses. What I disliked about it was how hard it is to find a hospitable place for building. By hospitable I mean a large relatively flat area near some interesting landmarks. All I could find is bumpy hills next to all sorts of brown wasteland type biomes. Sure I could disable the biomes I dont like but even the good ones have too drastic of color changes in the water and some of them even bring depth fog up to the surface. Who would want to live in a place like that?

One of the first things I noticed about highlands aside from the beautiful tree design is that theres handy plateaus everywhere. Even in the middle of a mountainous biome. Highlands I think, was made with the builder in mind.

And there will be plateaus and the same biomes for thousands and thousands of blocks.

This is very, very true.
Though it might be a hammer on your computer, its deffinitly worth it. (I use it on my server and I absolutely love it)

i5 overclocked to 4.2 GHz, gtx560ti overclocked, 8gig ram (3gig assigned to java). Never noticed any lag :D just awesome scenery with Soartex fanver textures

edit: I note how remarkably stable ftb monster is, if you have the PC for it, which is amazing for so many mods - cudos to the ftb team

It makes terrain more interesting but I will say it derps up biomes a bit. It tries to layer the biomes in a pseudo real manner but sometimes you'll get an odd patch of biome on layer boundaries. Like you'll have a basin land formation that's plains but at the very bottom there will be a patch of scrub or another biome type becasue it generated one block under the layer boundary.

Also if you are a fan of flat ground you will find that there is not much of in with ATG. ATG is perfect for people with organic build styles but not so much for those who need flat land.
Another also, the terrain gen seems to be using a beta vanilla style world gen, either I have not traveled far enough or ATG removes/ has no Vanilla style oceans. ATG looks like a tweaked vanilla beta world gen, that or it's very inspired by it.

Agreed re flat ground. For my this is generally a bonus although it would be nice to see some larger meadows/savannah. Haven't noticed an seriously incongruous biomes. Random overlapping biomes in past packs was pretty abstract.

Many of us already play our 1.7 private packs, there might not be a lot of 1.7 public packs but there's a whole lot of 1.7 mods out there :)
