I have done the hop from BoP, to ATG.

While the landscapes are mind blowingly gorgeous to look at, I can't help feeling that it's not practical.

Miles and miles of steeps dirt hills that span for even more miles. I hiked for 3 minecraft days, and didn't find a single piece of useable "flatish" land. It's hills upon hills that reach up to block 180 which would be hell to dig down from.

Resetting the map a gazillion times didn't help, as I keep getting way too many hills.

Does ATG have some kind of config where you can tell it to ease up on the hills and give somewhat more vanilla'ish geography? I like it's flowiness of bioms concept - I just need less hills!

Which modpack and which version of said modpack? Monster 1.0.3 has significant changes to the ATG settings that improve the situation substantially.

Yes ATG will provide flat terrain. You however might need to travel south or north a few hundred blocks, or a thousand blocks.

My world currently spawns us in a mountainous area but south 700 blocks is a plains with redwood trees.

I spent about 8 thousand blocks of hiking to find almost nothing but Boreal Forests and Ice plains, until I realized that I needed to go in a different direction to find different types of biomes. I remember running across a post about ATG having an "equator" of some sort, so traveling north/south will get you different biomes than just east and west.

I finally found an absolutely MASSIVE plains biome with tons of redwood trees. Its not perfectly flat, definitely more rolling hills, but still really nice especially considering the absolutely massive size.

Use ATG generation with BoP AND Highlands. Truely epic stuff there. (I need to update the configs to make sure I have the most recent Highlands build. Will do this for 1.0.5 but support is already in 1.0.4)

If you want more flat and less slope, adjust the ATG config option for HeightNoiseScale higher.

Wanna see something hilarious? Setting it to something nuts like 0.3.

I said to adjust it upward for flatter.

1.5 seems like a good setting to get more vanilla-like plains. I liked to split the difference, as 1.25 gives me good blotches of flat-ish land that can be easily landscaped into usable while still feeling like the default ATG.

Thank-you. I think I'll go for 1.5 from now on. This was my biggest problem with ATG.
