Is there a way to what my title suggests?

So I can use precision export bus to export the item to the chest.. but isit possible for a storage monitor to keep count of the items in that chest and/or the items in the ME system itself aswell.

At the moment the items are exported.. but the monitor is now showing 0 as its in the chest and not in the system.

Thanks =)

Put a ME storage bus on the chest instead. Filter the items in it and set a higher priority than your other storages to ensure that the items will go there.
Your chest will now be part of the ME network.

A ME export bus will export items out of the network.

Briliant, exactly what I wanted, thank you for your time!

Hi sorry to rebump this but I would like to progress on this project.
So here is my setup so far..

http://prntscr.com/454ndw Front
http://prntscr.com/454np2 Back

At the moment when I take items from the chest they don't auto refill from the ME system.. now I know somehow I can use level emitters but how can I do it with my current BACK set up.. Thanks =]

So, what you are trying to do is (For example) keep a chest full of cobble, but have the bulk of the cobble storage in your ME storage?

The problem here is that ME does not move items around storage dynamically. The storage priorities effect items being introduced into the network.
So, to keep on refilling the chest from ME storage you *need* an export bus.
An export bus obviously moves items out of the ME network so you (also) *need* a storage bus.

It seems dangerous to attach both an export bus and a storage bus to the same chest as it could conceivably cause an infinite loop of the ME system basically exporting constantly from the chest into itself. It doesn't make sense to have a storage bus with an 'export' only setting but perhaps that exists as an option that would solve the issue.

There might be some way to solve this using two networks.

Why do you want a chest full of cobble anway? If your answer is "because I might need some", why not put an ME Access Terminal there?

I'm sure its not really cobble. Substitute "some useful block" that exceeds the storage capabilities of an iron chest.

The better, perhaps, alternative, is to find a different external storage - DSU / Barrel / etc. - that CAN hold the complete store of the block in question.

Storage buses, as I recall, have a read/write setting which allows only taking things out (read) or only putting things in (write). So you could set the bus to write only and hook up an export bus, I believe. Not sure if it will still work with a monitor, though, as I never use the things.

Oh, and ME loops pretty much just cause a lot of lag. I once forgot I had an export bus crafting all my redstone into blocks for easier storage (I was using an autonomous activator and a fortune pick to break the ores) and set one up to turn the blocks into redstone when I started processing it through an induction smelter a week or so later because I was tired of always having to break the blocks down to craft stuff.

So let me get this straight. You want the monitors to show ALL the items available, but also have access to some manually? This is the purpose of the chests? Well thing is the Storage Monitor can already give you direct access to the items without the need for chests etc. Just lock the Monitors and upgrade them with a Conversion Matrix and you can use the Monitors just like a barrel.

Oh and I really think you could benefit from looking up some basic tutorials/mod spotlights on how AE storage works. Will make your work easier I think.
