Trying to Partition my drives, when I use the letter r in the drive name the name blanks out. I could probably get by just with out using the r key, but it is hard to catigorize ores and things of that nature without the letter r. So why does r blank out the disk name?
 
"R" is also the default key for sorting your inventory. (Which sometimes also causes issues with NEI.)

Open your inventory or a chest, click on the "..." option button and assign it something else. I would suggest to put it on some key that you would never use, normally you sort inventories with the middle mouse button anyway.
