Anyway to drain excess MJ from commercial steam engines?

Yet another topic I need to make to help me get my quarryplus up and running.

Alright, so I have pretty much all components I need. I have an MFR tree farm sending all wood into a steam oven powered by a steam boiler, than in turn takes the charcoal, and the excess steam is sent into five different ender tanks of the same color to make sure it stays full, with an output ender tank in the deep dark feeding the steam into 34 separate commercial steam engines, all powering an efficiency V QuarryPlus.

Here lies my problem: I've never used railcraft (I think that's the mod) steam engines, and thus have no clue how they work. I have them outputting a full 4 ticks (or 3.5 sometimes), but when they fill up with 20k MJ in their internal storage, they shut down, and don't turn back on. (I've left one that was over capacity for an hour, and it didn't turn back on) Is there any way to drain any excess power that won't be used from these engines so they don't overfill themselves?

Railcraft engines shut down when energy builds up because it is not being used. They are meant to only be turned on when needed. There are ways to automate this with Buildcraft gates. For a simple solution place a gate on the wooden kinesis pipe set to emit redstone on the condition of "Power Requested".

Seems like I have some experimenting in creative to do to figure out how gates work.

EDIT:

You just saved me. Doing that completely fixed the problem I had. Thanks a ton.
