Hi, everyone. I have created a decent canola generator system that produces as much as 3,000 RF/t, but I would like a bit of help on how to effectively automate it. It was tricky for me to build at initially, but I managed to build a system similar to what I've found over the internet using unique combinations of machines from different mods and piping from Thermal Expansion. Now here's the part I'm stuck on: I would like to limit how many stacks of regular and crystallized canola seeds each I send to make crystallized canola and empowered canola seeds respectively so I don't convert all my regular canola seeds into crystallized canola seeds or stuff the chest that I've connected to my empowered system with only crystallized canola seeds. I don't know of any blocks that exist that limit the amount of stacks that can go into an inventory, and I can't make an Applied Energistics system because it will take a lot of resources and infrastructure and I don't know of any way for it to communicate with my current Refined Storage system. I can post screenshots of my work if that should help.

Extra Utilities 2 has transfer filters that go on the side of an inventory that's being piped into. You can use those to specify not only what items need to go into an inventory, but how many to keep in an inventory as well. I believe this can be used to help achieve what you're after - I think so, anyway! :)

Check Direwolf20's Let's Play videos. His recently completed Season 8 (Direwolf20 1.10.2 pack) automated Canola all the way and he is just starting to automate it from scratch in his new "Age of Engineering" series (also 1.10.2). This iteration will probably use the new "cloche"(is that right?) to grow canola if the harder recipes don't get to him first :D.

When he starts an "All the Mods" or "FtB Unstable" (both MC 1.12) Let's Play he'll probably do it again, particularly if one of the new mods provides a different way to do things.

Thanks. I figured out how to filter items, but not how many stacks of said item(s). How can you tell it to keep as many as one stack of crystallized seeds and four stacks of normal seeds for instance?

storage drawers has a storeage downgrade what makes all drawers hold 1 stack so you could use a normal drawer to hold 1 stack and the thing you want 4 stacks of in a 2x2 drawer

If you're using Thermal Dynamics ducts, look into the upgraded filters. I think Signalum and Resonant (maybe just Resonant, it's been a while since I've dabbled) should have options for keeping inventory at certain levels.

There is also minichests. Holds one stack.
That's how I did my dedicated seed empowerer in sf3.

EnderIO has an item counter filter that allows you to specify maximum numbers of each input. I can't seem to make it do > 1 stack, but you could do 16 and 64 instead.

X-net can do single items, Thermal Expansion works, I think you can use retrievers, but filters might be necessary. Blood Magic has an item transfer system that can move specific numbers into inventories. Refined Storage has a detector, that can find out what's in the slot. A bit finicky to link to the system, but worth a look. Might even be able to do something with vanilla redstone if you're so inclined.

On-demand crafting with RS works, by detecting the amount of stuff in a dropper or whatever you're using to make your top-tier Canola oil.

I used a dropper to drop the canola seeds into the canola oil the issue was that the bud block detected the transformation of the canola oil into the 3rd tier as a Block Update so i put a hopper under the liquid and it worked perfectly. You could do the same thing with the empowered seeds. Have it feed into a drum as a backup the system backs itself up and boom infinite canola power completely automated.
