Aluminum is Xycraft, you'd have to ask Soaryn if it's intentional it doesn't appear to play well in the Forge ore dictionary, and it's only uses are foil cans for liquid dyes, water, and lava and for upgrading Sulfur Torches.

Most of Xycraft so far seems unfortunately useless. The ores are incredibly plentiful, but aside from the torches, they're all just aesthetic so far. I've gone out of my way to try to avoid mining them, because then I have to store them somewhere or toss them out. It's the one time I wish that the mod author hadn't decided to focus on world gen first, because it makes my world feel crowded with what is effectively shiny rocks.

Aluminum is officially recognized as valid spelling of the word for American English. In fact, a quick search on Dictionary.com even suggests that the "aluminum" spelling is even the older spelling of the word with aluminium being a later British revision. o_O

aye, but that suggests that I recognise "American English" as a real language, rather than just people being unable to spell :)

It's the one time I wish that the mod author hadn't decided to focus on world gen first, because it makes my world feel crowded with what is effectively shiny rocks.

I ended up disabling Xycraft because something like 1/3 of my ores were from that mod and none of it does anything. I also think that the ores and especially the quartz crystals just plain look bad and out of place in the caves. I know a lot of people like the craftable blocks but I'm not one of them.

Xycraft's wikia doesn't inspire a lot of confidence either. The upcoming features are

  • Machines
  • Powernet
  • Upgrade system and Equipment Items
  • Super secret stuffs
  • A LOT more uses
This is all terribly unspecific and I have no way of telling if these barely mentioned and possibly still uninvented features will be things that I think are worth putting up with all of the mineral creep. Basically, I'm confused why it is in the pack, but I won't make a huge deal of it other than to mention it this once because it is so easy to use the disable feature.

From what I've heard in various videos and streams so far, it sounds like more Xycraft content might be playable than what is released, but it's just being kept behind closed doors. Slowpoke seems to think it is rather unique and awesome, and I can only imagine he's referring to information about the industry aspect of it we are not yet privy to as opposed to a bunch of glow-in-the-dark mob spawn preventing blocks.

Yeah, I understand that there may well be good stuff coming, it's just that there hasn't been anything to make me think that specifically. Having done modding before, I can tell you that what gets people excited is specifics and details. When the presentation is vague and secretive, it looks identical to an empty mod that is being vague because there is nothing to be specific about. In the end it is the modder's own private choice how to present his own work, but I will say that the marketing strategy of "It's awesome but I can't tell you about it" usually backfires.

All the xycraft I've mined up so far is only about 2/3 of a double chest, so I'm not overly worried about it from a storage aspect. The aluminum thing is a bit annoying though, it looks to me like a spelling difference means they aren't registering the same in the ore dictionary. Hopefully that gets fixed soon now that the holidays are nearly past us!

Aluminium is correct, when Aluminium was first discovered, the letter over to America had a typo in it, with -um in it instead of -ium, therefore just another thing that is differently spelled in America.

I like the pretty blocks, they make my thaumcraft tower look magical. Plus they are usefull in the fact that mobs won't spawn on them, so all my floors are made from xycraft bricks... oooo magical looking

xycraft isn't that painful to store if you block it up. Not sure if you can take it apart afterwards but personally I think only the base block/brick look ok and the other parts with grey squares and circles look tacky. I don't mind the almost alien cave systems that I see now between thaumcraft xycraft and everything else though, it really makes it pretty cool :p

Also, I'm an aluminium person myself.
