I'm using the FTB unleashed pack and want to transfer items mined from a quarry to barrels using pipes. I've tried using BC pipes but the only way to sort items into relevant barrels is using a complex (from what I can see, but I may be wrong) system of diamond pipes. Without this complex system of diamond pipes, the BC pipes simply dump items into random barrels.

What I am wondering is if there is a way in the unleashed pack to sort items from the quarry into the relevant barrels, similar how the RP2 pneumatic tubes used to do so (most of the time).

I've tried using Extra Utilities to do this (as the mod has sorting pipes which do exactly what I want) but with these I can't seem to figure out how to extract items from the quarry into the Extra Utilities transport pipes, the quarry just dumps out the mined items everywhere, instead of into the EU pipe. I did attach a transfer node to the quarry but this will only transport when there is a least 1 whole stack of the same item, thus causing the quarry to dump all other mined items out onto the floor. Any explanation about Extra Utilities pipes would also be appreciated as the Wiki's available leave much to be desired in terms of information.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Just place a chest on the quarry and have the transfer node pull from the chest. Use an iron chest or larger size for buffer and lots of speed upgrades. The chest will prevent overflow.

Check LP too.
Also the Insertion Pipes is like a RP2 tube system ;)
Edit:More details below:
-Place a Insertion Pipe in the barrel
-It will try to place there,if it can't,It will try another barrel
-If there is no space,it will come back to the chest(I think this is a BC Change,but...)

As the reply above stated, TE's Insertion Transport Pipe will work wonder. And for the ExtraUtilities Transfer nodes, make sure the items have a place to go or else it will get stuck inside the node and cause the whole system to choke up.

Thanks for all the replies and have tried all of them, but am still having an issue with the items being sorted onto barrels.

When using the EU pipes, the suggestion of using a chest did, indeed work, but, despite using the sorting pipes, the items were still being put in barrels at random (e.g. 2 sand in one barrel, another 2 in another barrel, and so on). Not too sure whey this is, as the wiki says the sorting pipes will try to place items in inventories that have the same items already.

next I tried the insertions pipes, but am still having the same issue. I followed the instructions given and place an insertion pipe on top of each barrel but the same effect as previously mentioned is occurring. Random placement on items coming from the quarry, 2 sand in one barrel and 2 sand in another, instead of my intended outcome of all sand going into one barrel, all cobblestone into another etc.

Any ideas?

Are you using TE ones(Lapis Block+2tin+glass)?

here is what I use until i can get tesseracts and AE setup

you will need:
Quarry
4 cobble/stone transport pipes
3-4 barrels
3-4 insertion transport pipes (the blue ones) -- one pipe per barrel
1 chest

place your barrels in a line 1 block from the quarry
place your chest 1 block away from the end of the line of barrels
place 1 of the blue insertion pipes on top of each barrel.
run cobble/stone pipe from the top of the quarry to the 1st blue pipe.
run cobble/stone pipe from the last blue pipe to your chest.

it should look like this:
PPIIIPP
Q BBB C

P = stone/cobble pipe
I = insertion pipe
B = barrel
C/Q = Chest/Quarry

What's complex about diamond pipes? In my base they dump items coming in into Deep Storage Units which are tied into my AE network. IMHO they form an incredibly powerful combination.

I think he isn't saying that diamond pipes are complex. I think he is saying that he doesn't want to make a complex system.

Complex in the sense that I have to decide before hand where I want all the items to go into which barrels first and physically go and do it, which is why I ask to for a RP2 tube alternative or as close to as possible, since I don't want to have to setup to many things, laziness on my part I know, but that is my preferable play style. Just place the pipes a leave the quarry to run. Aesthetically I don't like the look of diamond pipes either and I'm only in early game stages and I haven't found many diamonds as yet (hence the use of the quarries)

But I agree with you about how useful and powerful diamond pipes are, as I've played the Mindcrack pack to death and used them extensively there.[DOUBLEPOST=1379452821][/DOUBLEPOST]

Quite right, just install the pipes and let them do the work :)[DOUBLEPOST=1379452856][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thanks, this is interesting but similar to my current setup. Only difference I can see is the layout of barrels (Mine are a reasonable distance away from the quarry and I don't have a chest at the end of the chain. I haven't tried your layout on a more local scale with your specific example yet, but I will try it to see if I get the same issue of not having all of one block type in the same barrel.

To use your diagram:

P IIIIIIIIIIII
P BBBBBBB
Q PPPPPPPP
P
IIIIIIIIII
BBBBBB

hrm. something got lost in translation there. My layout is when viewed from the side. the whole structure is 2 blocks tall and 8 blocks wide, and only 1 block deep.

so if you have many barrels, and a longer pipe it looks like so when viewed from the side.
PPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIPP
Q BBBBBBBBBBBBB C

This also assumes only 1 barrel per type of item (although you will fill up he cobble / dirt barrels quickly).

I also had the same problem with sorting into barrels until I started using the insertion pipes. The key is to attach the blue pipe to the TOP of the barrel. Sometimes it also helps to seed the barrel by adding 1 of the block you want it to store. So grab 1 cobble, 1 dirt, 1 gravel, 1 iron ore... etc

Logistics Pipes. Not sure if it is in unleashed (still on my self imposed hiatus) but LP did inventory-directed sorting before barrels even existed to allow RP2 to do the same.

The only reason I'd think of to use barrels over DSU's is display. Barrels have an image of the item on the front, DSU's don't. Storage Monitors gives barrel like access to items. You could indeed use DSU's with storage buses for the task, but then you end up programming them individually, which is the problem he's already having with barrels.

Speaking of, a simple solution is to 'program' the barrels with one of the correct item in each.
