Somewhere over the rainbow.
Please, the DW20 1.0.17 is just gone, now we have a 1.0.18 but no changelog to know what has changed again, there was no changelog for 1.0.17 and now there's one but since 1.0.17 is gone, its not very helpful... Do I need to worry if my server is running on 1.0.17 at the moment, does it need to be updated quickly, I need to know if we risk any problems with this version ???

Ok so on your launcher look for a drop down that should say "Recommended" on it. Click on it and select the Version you currently run. Now it will not update when you click launch.
Now what you do is you play the game until the changelog comes out. If then you like what the changelog says you update. If you are playing on a server they will normally have a place you can go check to see what version it runs.

Somewhere over the rainbow.
I run my own private family server and without a proper changelog, I can't tell if I should update right away because of a serious mod problem that can corrupt my world and the update is fixing it or I can wait and plan my updates for the next weekend like I usually try to do, If the update is forced for the recommended version which is the case for DW20 1.6.4 pack at the moment, I can't have the 1.0.17 anymore, I'm stuck because 1.0.17 isn't there anymore, lucky for me, I never ever play from the FTB Launcher, I prefer MultiMC5 which doesn't force any update on me and my family members, but I track down the newest versions by looking at the FTB Launcher and at the official changelog site which at the moment only list the 1.0.17 changes, so the only way to tell is to manually take a look at the mods in the mods folder and see which one was updated and then search on google for the changelog of the mod itself to see if they fix a serious issue that can't wait to be updated.

I understand here that all the people involved in the FTB packs do it for free and I appreciate their work a lot, but would it be really difficult to make sure a changelog is ready before forcing an update to the FTB Launcher packs and force them to be the recommended version at least.

Ok if you run the server why would you not know if you needed an update ? And FTB does not force you too update... If you read above you can see that....keep the server at what ever the last working version was, have everyone play on it, and wait to update only when you really need too.

The problem is my nephew normally use the FTB Launcher, and actually, I've tried it again, there's no way to keep the 1.0.17 version, since its not in the drop down list anymore that makes me believe there's something serious if the FTB team took it off the drop down menu, last version that disappeared like that was 1.0.10 if I remember correctly, we're forced to update to the latest recommended version which is at the moment the DW20 1.6.4 V1.0.18, that means for now I'll share my MultiMC5 version with him and instruct him to stay away from the FTB Launcher, anyways it was always a headache because we have a bunch of extra mods to the pack and at every FTB pack update, the damn folder is wiped clean off any extra mods and I had to recreate the pack for him with all the mods we have. Already plan an update for this saturday to stay up to date, guess we should see a changelog before saturday, or I'll update anyways and stay up to date...

I believe @VikeStep is currently busy with personal life things at the moment, thus delaying the changelogs for the modpacks for a bit.
I think there's some programs that allow you to compare 2 different folders with eachother, and pointing out the differences, which could tell you what has changed

I'm really sorry about this, but yes, @Yusunoha is right. There was a LOT of personal things going on right now. The DW20 1.0.18 update and the other 2 updates not up for Tech World and Magic Farm were just bug fixes for CodeChickenCore. Again, I am really sorry about this. But the personal things are over and I can work on them

Funnily enough a change log was posted, same day as the updates went out. It was even tweeted http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/thr...re-updating-any-pack.36499/page-2#post-574513

I find it interesting how many people seem to want to go "Zomg no changelogs were posted.. no one warned me of anything" When reading the thread linked in every update tweet would give you all the information you needed. In fact you ought to just book mark that thread. And the changelog website.

If the incredibly detailed changelogs that go over every single line of code that changed are going to be late I post a less detailed changelog on that thread to ensure the information is available.

I really wish more people would read the announcements threads before going on forum and reddit rants against the team. I have yet to see an instance where the information someone was ranting about wasn't actually available. They just didn't actually look.

Recommended versions are changed when a new version is stable.

If you had read the thread and the tweets you would have known 1.0.17 was removed from the launcher and a hotfix was applied for 1.0.18 because of a very nasty crash and corruption bug effecting Mac users.

As a general rule if I yank a pack version off the launcher there's a very very very good reason for why that version was pulled. I will not leave that kind of bug on the launcher for unsuspecting people to download. It would be incredibly irresponsible of me to do so.

1.0.18 went to recommended today at DW20's request. Those changelog notes on the thread were posted Sunday.

I get both sides of the argument...

I haven't updated yet and that's fine as I am happy to wait for the changelog site to update. The pack developers and changlog people in the same tone they are in this thread have told us to use this link https://feedthebeast.atlassian.net/wiki/display/PML/Public+Modpack+Listings of which has not been updated. Are we to use that or the announcement thread... or are we to keep up with someone tweet line that we are supposed to somehow know about for updates... or are we to ask and get ridiculed?[DOUBLEPOST=1394200423][/DOUBLEPOST]But yes. thank you, all the people responsible for providing us with ftb stuff.

For the OP, obviously you wanted to know what the changes were. You may have gotten a preferred answer from someone atleast to the point of you being able to figure out if you should update or not if the title was phrased as a question. I don't know if you would have received the same shamed response, but I think it would have been less likely.

Indeed FTB's changelog is great. It's one of the best changelog's I've seen out there, considering that they are working with at least 70 different developers. The ammount of effort needed to keep that up with so many different people is tremendous.

It's just threads like these that make me feel like its not worth doing (I still will, but you get my point)
Your work here is quite valued. Please remember that the vast majority of use appreciate your time and energy for something we would never have the patience to do :D

Thanks Vike!

Exactly, she prolly knows the numbers of users. Out of those, let's say 70-80% never said a thanks. They are actually enjoying everything, they just don't say anything.

So the changelog was not there, but the changes were posted in one of the announcement threads. Or that's what Jadedcat said.

When you get spare time @VikeStep, just wanna let ya know that I think Translocators in the DW20 pack was updated to 1.1.0.15. That wasn't in the change log you put up, just to save a headache from people complaining that something was missed like the people above.
