Actually the backing up was partly due to the receiving tesseract not working for unknown reasons, and after I added extra conduits, due to me forgetting to configure the sending tesseract after moving it. But it still does keep it seriously busy.

the problem with turrets is that they have a very weak damage. to be able to keep up with a soul shard spawner, you'd first need to damage the blazes before they get to the turrets so the turrets can 1-2 hit them.
I've seen your posts on the RR g+ page aswell, and I noticed you're trying to gather XP with Liquid XP. in a recent update immibis has added support for MFR mob essence to Liquid XP

so you should be able to use a MFR grinder, and send the mob essence to the Liquid XP machines.
as for an alternative way of killing mobs that people don't often use, how about an old-school approach with new mod ways?
things like oreberries can damage and kill mobs, but will not destroy the drops. how about having the grinder room filled with things like oreberries to kill the blazes?

No I can't use a MFR grinder because those don't work with SS.

creepers are spawned with mfr, I had a lot of essence leftover from the previous map:

The updated version of railcraft has these steam valve things that take 12 buckets of steam and blow it out causing damage infront of it. Maybe you could have a boiler that ran on blaze rods or wither coal to provide the steam? Don't know how practical that would really be though.
Yeah when I read the update notice I thought 12 buckets is quite a lot but that is only a feeling. I haven't run the numbers or anything but it looks pretty neat.
I have MFR grinders happily grinding away all my SS-based mob spawners over on TS2. I'm gaining items - admittedly I haven't checked my Essence tank recently, did PC change the gaining of Essence from them?
Perhaps fixed in 0.9.1 because my grinder isn't killing SS pigs.
Correction: it wasn't working because I had nowhere for the essence to go. Now it's tesseracted to my creeper spawner and all is well.

Oh and my mobgrinder really isn't working well on the pigs. It rarely kills any of them and when it does it's not putting the pork in the adjacent pork dsu. I'm sure that used to work. Now it just drops them in the world.

Are you using the MFR grinder? For cows it picks up the meat but not the leather? There is a block in MFR called the item collector that is like an obsidian pipe that deposits directly in an adjacent inventory. I have it that adult cows are channelled into the path of a grinder with conveyor belts and when it gets close the grinder activates and the conveyor belt keeps moving the drops into the item collector. It will probably work nicely with other slaughtering methods too.
I think the slaughterhouse doesn't collect experience. plus in 1 case I now a good use for porkchops.... villager trading
